Building Engines is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager with deep experience leading teams tasked with building complex web and mobile applications. Our Prism platform brings CRE into the modern era via components that are feature rich and tightly integrated, reducing end user task effort and exposing contextually relevant data in intuitive forms. The Building Engines engineering team has a strong culture of transparency, autonomy, and humanity - we have found the best way to build amazing software is to build an amazing team, provide a compelling mission, and get out of the way.

What youll do:

  • As a leader within our engineering team you will take stewardship over one or more of our self-organizing agile teams.
  • Be deeply involved in operations and technical decisions, and drive engineers to achieve successful business outcomes.
  • Share insights and ideas with the rest of the leadership team and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Your passion for building great software will be key to your success; together well achieve delivery of a high quality platform through teams of engineers that are happy and well cared for.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years managing agile engineering teams.
  • 5+ years as a hands-on engineer developing software in a professional environment.
  • Experience with Python, Django, JavaScript, React and / or Postgres.
  • Experience with leading and developing software engineers.

Basic Qualifications * Technical leadership, experience in high performing, agile teams * 8+ years of industry experience developing commercial software applications or services * 2+ years of people management experience Preferred Qualifications * You've studied - you have a BA, BS, or MS in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience. * You've coded - you are comfortable in object-oriented languages like C#, C++, or Java; you have a solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns; and you've got a least 8 years of industry experience as a software engineer to prove it. Experience with React or similar UI toolkits preferred. * You've led - you have at least 2 years of experience leading a team of engineers by setting clear expectations, keeping team members energized, and delivering great results. * You collaborate - you can explain your work, you can ask great questions, you can listen to your peers and your customers, you can influence without authority, and you like to give and receive feedback. * You stay focused - you want to ship software that solves real problems for real people, now. * You're a professional - you understand that it's not enough to write working code. It must also be well-designed, easy to test, and easy to add to over time. * You're learning - no matter how much you know, you are always seeking to learn more and to become a better engineer and leader.
