Job Description and Duties

The Site Mitigation and Restoration Program in Sacramento is seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist for the Lead-Acid Battery Recycling Facility Investigation and Cleanup program (LABRIC) within the Exide Division. This individual will work with geologists, engineers, scientists, and an administrative staff in the LABRIC program. As a Senior Engineering Geologist you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and update the LABRIC Act implementation plan, guidance, and policy documents; develop prioritization criteria; coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies; manage the program budget; tracking of the program's progress; and preparing the annual report to the legislature

  • Develop step by step quality practice procedures for evaluation of potential LABRIC sources, investigation approaches, site evaluations and prioritization, engineering, remediation, and construction management services applicable to the project

  • Prepare and provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Reports to the Unit/Branch Chief on a regular basis and makes recommendations to improve the quality of the program

  • Serve as senior technical consultant to LABRIC staff on geological and geological engineering issues

  • Independently direct, oversee, or evaluate investigations of complex hazardous waste release sites for proper characterization and consideration of geologic and hydrogeologic conditions, nature and extent of contamination, fate and transport of contaminants, risk to human and ecological receptors, and viability of remedial alternatives

  • Provide reviews/comments to staff and management on the geological and technical aspects of investigation and remediation tasks

  • Experience with project budgeting

  • Experience with developing and managing contracts

  • Knowledge of remediation technologies

  • Ability to interact with the public
