POSITION TITLE: Senior Engineer Underground
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Manager Engineering, plan and coordinate engineering feasibility studies, mine plans, capital requirements, and mine designs for underground and/or surface mines. Provide support as needed for new mine construction activity and operations of existing mines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Safety a Way of Life Personal Leadership Competencies:
Work with operations personnel in the development of mine plans and refinement of mining methods and operating procedures.
Work with operations personnel to transfer best mining methods and procedures between mines.
Assist mine engineering personnel to develop reserve models and evaluate the reserve potential relative to mineability, economic feasibility, and deliverable coal quality.
Assist in the development of detailed mine plans for existing operations and potential reserves.
Provide engineering support for construction activity.
Assist in the development and design drainage control plans and mine waste disposal areas.
Provide general engineering services as needed
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and/or needed.
MINIMUM and PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: (Required:
BS in Engineering. Mine Engineering preferred.
Minimum of four (4) years' coal mining experience
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE:
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
Ability to travel periodically
Ability to work overtime as needed
Must have strong up to date skills utilizing computer software such as, but not limited to, Excel, Word, AutoCAD/SurvCADD, etc.
REQUIRED and PREFERRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:Required:
Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain Under the direction of the Manager Engineering, plan and coordinate engineering feasibility studies, mine plans, capital requirements, and mine designs for underground and/or surface mines. Provide support as needed for new mine construction activity and operations of existing mines.0Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a extended periods as a result of mine height
Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination
Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on an occasional.
Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, water varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
The job requires that you be able to work any assigned shift and assigned weekends.
Must have the ability to sit, stand and walk about for extended periods of time.
Must be able to use a computer, communicate effectively in various forms, including by email and phone
Must be able to review paper and electronic documents; complete computer entry of data from paper documents
Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets; discuss issues by telephone and in person
Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
