Job Description:Summary:

Role and Scope of Position:

This position has the responsibility for optimizing the cost and performance of substation equipment on the transmission/distribution system. This position is responsible for new equipment acceptance testing and commission including the development and/or revision of processes and procedures. This position is also involved with the strategic development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of equipment failures, and the appropriate resolutions, in order to provide support to operations on unplanned maintenance. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other Engineers.

. Essential Functions:

  • Coaches and develops performance of engineers and other staff.

  • Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system including reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.

  • Responsible for the development of equipment commissioning plans for all major substation equipment types.

  • Responsible for commissioning and placing into service major substation equipment during project implementation.

  • Responsible for the development and management of a preventive maintenance optimization program.

  • Assists with the development of infrastructure strategy, operating philosophy and technical basis for asset renewal decisions.

  • Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.

  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.

  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Collaborates with Asset Strategy for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.

  • Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.

  • Assumes the role of Project Manager, as required.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skills:
Electrical engineering knowledge with a focus on substation equipment testing, commissioning, operating, and maintenance

Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

Experiences: Minimum of eight (8) years in utility distribution/transmission engineering. Supervisory experience preferred.

Problem Solving & Complexity:

Work includes calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting. This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.

Individual will support the transmission outage and operational plans for EVERSOURCE. The position requires the ability and experience to perform planning and operational studies using the PSS/E software. Individual will perform economic analysis on the New England system to determine congestion savings resulting from Outage Coordination. This activity will involve understanding of the ISO New England energy market and use of ABB's Gridview or similar software. Individual will perform engineering studies including powerflow analysis (Thermal, Voltage/Reactive and Stability) using complex power system models to determine optimum transmission system outage scheduling and coordination in support of EVERSOURCE Operations. Individual develops operational guidance for the EVERSOURCE service territory and works to analyze emerging issues and develop solutions and reports. Individual provides subject matter expertise and technical support to internal members of the department as well as to the LCC's. This position is being posted internally and externally simultaneously. The ability to successfully complete a background check for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Access required. Technical Knowledge/Skill: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Strong problem solving skills Must have a thorough knowledge of power system planning engineering concepts, principles, theories, regulations, standards, reliability concepts and techniques. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master's Degree in Engineering or Management and Professional Engineer License are desirable. Eights years required in Transmission Planning or Operational Planning for the senior level. Thorough knowledge of power system planning engineering concepts, principles, theories, regulations, standards, reliability concepts and techniques needed. Individual must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate strong problem solving skills. Considerable interaction will be required with other functional areas within Transmission and Distribution in CT, MA and NH, LCC's, ISO New England, and other Transmission owners in New England.
