As a member of the Production Operations team and Performance DBA, you'll work cross-functionally with senior level database administrators, system administrators, architects and software engineers in support of 24x7 mission-critical services and systems. Your role will primarily focus on capacity, performance, and scalability and you will provide technical expertise in identifying performance issues, tuning, testing and scaling all aspects of the key applications. Understanding of end-to-end application support and a passion for learning and tackling performance and tuning challenges is required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deploy and maintain Oracle and Postgres database systems in non-production environments.

  • Install new software releases, OS system upgrades, evaluate and install patches.

  • Work with architecture and operations teams on infrastructure changes from design through implementation ensuring changes are thoroughly tested and highly optimized.

  • Work with operations DBAs to ensure production databases and monitors are accurately simulated in non-production environment.

  • Work closely with the development team prototyping new features and making tuning recommendations for application changes.

  • Design performance and scalability test scenarios and automation to run repeatable tests that simulate production behavior, measure response times and system characteristics.

  • Monitor system end-to-end including the network layer and databases to perform thorough diagnosis and troubleshooting.

  • Provide on-call support in a 24x7/365 operational environment.

Our Location

Reston, VA is home to our headquarters. Reston is a suburb of Washington, DC with public transportation (Metrorail) available into the city. While the city has numerous free, cultural and entertainment opportunities, the Reston Town Center where we are located mixes residential and commercial. Key Capabilities

  • 8 years experience in the administration of OLTP databases, Oracle and PostgresSQL.

  • Experience installing, upgrading, and patching Oracle and Postgres database software.

  • Experience using tools such as AWR, ADDM, ASH, and Oracle Enterprise Manager. Well versed with creating baselines and comparing AWR reports.

  • Experience in data replication solutions, Oracle DG, PostgresSQL replication, Golden Gate and EMC SRDF.

  • Experience with high availability (HA failover AIX) and Dataguard switchover/failover.

  • Experience in setting up Oracle Dataguard/DG Broker/FSFO as well as expert in troubleshooting Dataguard performance issues.

  • Strong performance tuning and database optimization abilities required in areas of Shared Pool Management, PGA and Oracle Internals.

  • Solid understanding of enqueues, lock, latches, blocking session, and Oracle wait event interface queries.

  • Database monitoring and SQL Tuning of application and queries using TKPROF, OEM, AWR and custom scripts and well versed with creating SPMs and SQL_Profiles.

  • Experience in Backup and Recovery Oracle databases using RMAN.

  • Experience using Version Control to manage code revisions, mainly Git (GitHub).

  • Experience in the administration of Linux/Unix operating systems. Knowledge of Oracle Kernel parameters.

  • Experience in scripting languages, including BASH or Python.

  • Knowledge of tools for monitoring, aggregated logging, and metrics collection such as Nagios, Splunk, Telegraf, and Grafana.

  • Good understanding of networking and networking protocols, including the use of routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.

  • Experience with big data tools such as Hadoop, Hive or other similar NoSQL platforms, and open source technologies Spark and Kafka.

  • Experience automating the creation of computing environments using technologies such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, Kubernetes, and/or Swarm.

Education and experience

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 12 years experience in the administration of OLTP (High Transaction Volume) systems.
  • 4 years of system administration experience
