Summary: This senior-level civil engineer works independently to plan, design, and direct multiple complex transportation projects by performing the following duties:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work primarily on complex transportation projects. Prepare or direct the preparation for projects including proposals, reports, specifications, plans, and designs
  • Responsible for data collection, technical analyses, and written supporting documentation.
  • Utilize modeling software for the preparation of roadway design plans
  • Maintain competency in and serves as major resource in field of expertise
  • Establish budgets, estimating, scoping, and marketing strategies for proposed traffic projects
  • Prepare forecast of anticipated workload for internal project staff
  • Responsible for control of work-in-process, ensures accurate client billings, and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on assigned projects
  • Serve as a senior project engineer and as designated client contact
  • Participate in project interviews. Attend client meetings day or evenings
  • Conduct and make public presentations
  • Responsible for distribution and oversight of work to staff and sub-consultants
  • Responsible for project team quality systems tasks as defined by the FHU QA/QC manual
  • Mentor junior-to mid-level employees. Including technical peer reviews and employee evaluations
  • Champion the Principals special work activities
  • Must take charge and be responsible for assigned tasks
  • Self-manage schedule to meet project deadlines

Requirements

Education and Experience

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in civil/transportation engineering or equivalent degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Masters degree preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience as a transportation engineer including but not limited to roadway, highway, and interchange design. Experience may include railroad and environmental assessments and design
  • Have a strong working knowledge of roadway design and modeling software used for the preparation of plans and designs
  • Ability to multi-task several projects at one time while staying on budget and on schedule
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondences
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Previous supervisory experience desired
  • Nebraska PE (or ability to obtain via reciprocity) is required
  • Valid Drivers license required
