This is the senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. This position is located within Power Quality, Reliability and Integrity (PQR&I)/Planning in the Carolinas and is responsible for engineering and in-depth technical support in the areas of Distributed Generation. The work location for this position is flexible within the NC area to be discussed during interview.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides technical expertise and support for all Distributed Generation projects and studies.
Collaborating with the DG Lead Engineer and Study Engineering team to deliver technical support to project owners throughout the process of evaluating the DG project interconnection.
Ensuring that key regulatory interconnection standards related to timelines, and communications, among other criteria are achieved.
Performance of DG studies, and review of studies by other staff, with respect to specific jurisdictional requirements for effective interconnection to the grid.
Active participation on special assignments, including representation of DG among other organizations within Duke Energy
Liaison to Distribution Standards, Transmission, R&I, Asset Management, Capacity Planning, DPAC, etc. for Distributed Generation- related issues
Field support for distribution design organization to approve engineering design decisions
Outage restoration support
Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), OR a Master's degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Minimum of six (6) years of engineering experience
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Experience and demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others
Demonstrated effective team work skills
Demonstrated strong computer skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day direction while maintaining performance expectations
Proficient in principles of project management
Experience in the utility industry
Understanding of basic principles of Power Engineering, Power system analysis and symmetrical components
Background in Distribution system reliability
Background in Distribution Maintenance programs
Knowledge of distribution system electrical design and operation
Understanding of basic principles of power system protection theory, practices, and application
Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical power systems
Strong knowledge and understanding of protective relays, reclosers and application of distribution protective devices
Working knowledge of utility financial practices
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Knowledge of distribution tools and technologies
