Overview
The Senior Engineer will support the project teams with varying degrees of direct project responsibilities while maintaining an in-depth knowledgebase of the telecommunications site development process. Project work will focus on new site development of macro and small cell sites, the modification of existing telecommunications facilities, fiber optic networks, and other project types as required. Responsibilities will focus on engineering tower and compound as well as creating fiber optic network designs and maintaining effective job flow while managing multiple projects. Senior Engineer assists the NB+C manager with the delegation of assignments, resource allocation, and the oversight of quality and timeliness of deliverables while utilizing an understanding of client-specific telecommunications equipment and their usage.
Responsibilities
Engineer tower and compound location (i.e. site layout, grading, stormwater management design, and culvert design) and with an understanding in structural engineering concepts
Develop construction plans for telecommunications client equipment upgrades and modifications
Prepare and review construction drawings for completeness before final PE review
Design of new conduit routes for fiber optic utility companies from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
Design of existing fiber optic facilities within the public for permanent or temporary relocation in the public right-of-way
Analyze and design all types of structural support designs using building materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, light-gage, and wood
Perform calculations conforming to building code requirements for structural design and analysis
Assist in the development of structural reports
Interact with internal multi-disciplinary team members to expedite project completion and approvals
Create effective job flow by tracking assigned tasks and prioritizing completion of assignments accordingly
Maintain NB+C CAD standards and templates
Routinely produce accurate drawings promptly and efficiently
Learn new telecommunications equipment and client-specific equipment and their usage
Evaluate designs for constructability
Perform quality analysis and quality control review on reports, drawings, and construction documents prepared by engineering staff for accuracy and completeness
Perform, review and approve structural analysis reports, construction drawings, and other construction contract documents with a high level of accuracy and strict attention to detail
Collaborate with NB+C manager and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient, effective, and innovative approach to meet the client's needs
Provide guidance and training to junior engineering team members
Assist the NB+C manager with the daily operations of the engineering team
Qualifications
B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology required
4+ years' engineering experience required, OSP Fiber experience preferred
EIT required, PE preferred
AutoCAD required, Civil 3D preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Structural engineering software experience required (RISA 3D, Enercalc, tnx
Tower, Mathcad)
Professional and applicable understanding of the principles of the following knowledge area: transportation, civil (grading and site analysis), stormwater management design, culvert design, structural, and geotechnical
Competency in reading, understanding and interpreting complex building, tower, structural and construction drawings
Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
Experience with design of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and landscaping plans
Ability to review and analyze site documentation and gather necessary information to complete the assignment
Knowledge in construction practice and principles
Ability to research and draw upon engineering knowledge to yield feasible and creative solutions
Critical thinking and problem solving for complex designs
Ability to work autonomously without supervision required
Telecommunications and/or utility experience required, structural analysis and design experience preferred
Practical knowledge of all telecommunications site development disciplines, including site acquisition, land use, construction management, and RF
Industry knowledge and technology trends preferred
Experience in developing and reviewing project quality plans, contract documents and project specifications
