Job Purpose

As a member of the Power Unit Division, you design and bring powertrain components and technologies into our vehicles, ensuring that all marketability, reliability, regulatory, profitability, manufacturing, and design requirements and targets are met. At the Senior Engineer II level, you are an expert in related function areas and are expected to oversee and develop others as an Assistant TE or Group Leader across multiple development projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish technical growth strategies and technical transfer opportunities to improve the capability of less-experienced members in the function group. Collaborate with GO, ADC TEs, and function GL to use collective technical know-how to transfer knowledge and skills necessary to conduct responsible function obligations.

  • Provide necessary coaching and motivation for group members to conduct development responsibilities. Help explain the purposes and motivations for established technical direction and resolve conflict and disagreement between function management and test members. Collaborating with TEs, clearly provide direction for accomplishing technical tasks through written and verbal instructions and by demonstrating proper execution of tasks through personal experience.

  • Establish a technical strategy for development problem solving by applying the personal experience advice of TEs and other members of the development organization (both inside function group and outside including, but not limited to, factory members, supplier organizations, and other development groups) and GO. Strive to set challenging goals to exceed the customer's expectations and instil that intention and mindset within the function group team. Evolve the problem-solving approaches to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of solutions over time, constantly applying tracking means to objectively gauge performance.

  • Share function group development plans, status, and results throughout the development organization to allow harmonious development progress. Take accountability for development plans, ensuring key milestones and deadlines can be maintained. Collaborate with TE and function group management to provide necessary guidance to function members to enforce the responsibility to uphold promised development deadlines and output commitments.

  • Consult w/ function group management about staffing adjustments/manpower assignments/job assignments to achieve responsible function outputs. Provide advice to human managers based on day-to-day performance assessment and the historical performance of group members to improve function and departmental capability.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical / Electrical / Controls / Automotive / Aerospace Engineering

  • 8 years

  • Supplier support / negotiation and manufacturing support

  • Proficient PC Skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other technical software) and excellent communication / interpersonal skills are required. The ability to travel and work overtime may be required

Workstyle

  • Our unique environment allows for a combination of desk (approximately 70% sitting & standing) and hands-on work (approximately 30% walking & lifting/reaching).

  • Some domestic and international travel

  • OT: 10-20 hours per week
