DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and Product Validation.
The Current Product Engineering (CPE) Department has two main missions:
To provide design enhancement and optimization for our current product platforms that spans across virtually all stages of the vehicle lifecycle
To deliver robust, fleet-specific designs required for each of our customers' operational needs
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a technical individual who will be responsible from the initial bid through vehicle delivery, encompassing bid team support, translation of requested features into parts and functionality, design & release of components/installations, validation support, and implementation into production. They will also handle engineering design, problem resolution and other engineering duties in support of the design and manufacturing of sub-systems. This person will have direct influence at sub-system level to optimize the piece parts and sub-systems for Powertrain and reports to the Powertrain Engineering Supervisor but may also get direction/guidance from senior engineers.
TECHNICAL FOCUS
For (Powertrain)
Our customers demand the most robust drivetrain that is required to meet a minimum service life of 12 years and/or 500,000 miles. Whether Diesel, CNG, Hybrid, or Fully Electric, you will provide modular powertrain and powertrain-related configurations that satisfy customer expectations, specifications & requirements. In addition to powertrain combinations, you will have ownership of the peripheral items - cooling, fuel, energy storage, fire suppression systems, as well as other engine compartment option content.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
Evaluate customer product requirements and develop product designs to meet customer needs
Optimize designs via analytical, numerical and/or empirical assessments as well as make mechanical, thermal, and electrical models/analysis to ensure product requirements are met
Produce and/or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, delivery, and performance on specialized knowledge of engineering applications together with possible involvement of other functional engineers and/or customer/supplier personnel
Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) along with all project documentation
Advise stakeholders on the technical issues that affect the product design, production cycle-time & cost
Develop and maintain the technical specification for desired performance at the sub-system level
Work independently on assigned sub-system tasks with some guidance required from senior engineers on sub-system level tasks
Productively work with other engineers, designers, technicians, sales representatives, installers, and project managers so the project is delivered on schedule and within budget
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers at component and sub-system level
Develop individual analytical skills, expand tool base knowledge, learn different methods to analyze a given design problem and develop a solid understanding of design risk factors (Pre req for DFMEA line above)
Provide hands-on troubleshooting of vehicle systems
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
Clear understanding of Heavy-Duty Transit Bus Duty Cycle
Ability to read and produce mechanical drawings
Understanding and application of structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for components and weldments
Understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Knowledge of automotive mechanical systems and functions as well as the ability to read and produce mechanical drawings
Experience with typical manufacturing tolerances associated with sheet metal and machined parts
Familiarity with automotive industry standards such as SAE, NFPA, FMVSS, etc.
Manufacturing processes and environment experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, and walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
Fast paced work environment
Standard start time 6:30 AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
