Role Overview

This position is for a seasoned Systems Engineering professional, working independently. Converts product requirements into total system solutions, leads trade studies, and implements common work practices.

Lead, with minimal supervision, avionic supplemental type certification (STC) projects. Responsibilities will include:

  • Authoring STC certification plans, 14 CFR compliance checklists, instructions for continued airworthiness, ground test plans, flight test plans, electrical load reports, 14 CFR compliance reports, and weight/balance reports.

  • Lead the integration of aircraft avionic systems by working with the respective business unit systems engineering team and the Aircraft Certification Center (ACC) installation design team to define the aircraft level installation architecture and details required to meet the approved certification basis.

  • Identifying, documenting, and communicating significant certification risks for timely review and resolution.

  • Monitoring and reporting of aircraft installation design and substantiation data milestones and reporting status to project/program management.

  • Ensuring all aircraft certification requirements are met resulting in successful STC issuance.

This position has the opportunity to become an engineering unit member within the Rockwell Collins STC, TSO, PMA ODA organization. All assignments are executed under the direction of the aircraft certification engineering leadership and STC ODA Administrator.

  • Thorough working knowledge of Title 14 CFR Part 23, and 25

  • Familiarity with Title 14 CFR Part 21, 43, 45, 91, 121, 135, and 183

  • Thorough understanding of commercial avionics systems

  • Experience in the preparation of certification plans, 14 CFR compliance checklists, instructions for continued airworthiness, ground test plans, flight test plans, electrical load reports, and weight/balance reports

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing certification practices and procedures

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable engineering or science field and ten years of related experience

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the HIRF, Lightning, and EMC aspects of avionic system certification

  • Prior or current FAA DER and/or FAA ODA UM (Systems and Equipment Electrical) experience

You will be involved in all stages of the product development life-cycle across various products. Tasks will include designing systems solutions for complex systems, implementing systems solutions from existing designs, systems documentation and testing. Selected individual will be the focal for our audio/displays and networking integration on existing platforms. You will work with customers and team members in a technologically advanced and challenging field supporting the development of new features and functionality across multiple products ranging from: Netflix like streaming service, wireless technology, Android/IOS App development, 3D Graphics with OpenGL, Embedded Java development, graphical user interface development with emphasis on user experience and cabin entertainment systems and helping to bridge consumer electronics to the aerospace industry.
