L3 Technologies is a leading provider of a broad range of communication, electronic and sensor systems used on military, homeland security and commercial platforms. L3 is also a prime contractor in aerospace systems, security and detection systems, and pilot training.

Electronic Systems (ES) is one of four L3 business segments, and provides a broad range of components, products, subsystems, systems and related services for military and commercial customers. We are searching for a Sr. Facilities Engineer for our Power Distribution- San Leandro location.

Under general supervision, this position serves as project manager for assigned projects such as employee or equipment relocations; planning of space for relocations; and facilities coordination of vendor project work & custodial coordination. Maintenance projects are both routine and specialized, and may include work with HVAC & refrigeration; moving contractors; electricians; plumbers; custodial; specialized lock & key vendors; and other facilities areas. This classification also serves as EH&S back up, which includes coordination of chemical pickups.

Your day to day activities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as Project Manager for maintenance projects, obtaining bids, ordering materials, coordinating & expediting jobs and materials; maintaining schedule and budget costs. (Includes cost estimating for projects and facilities requests.)

  • Creates scopes of work for projects. (As necessary, may direct the efforts of vendors who construct, maintain, and repair utilities systems, buildings and equipment in the trades of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and air conditioning.)

  • Writes detailed and in-depth Single-Source Justifications (SSJ) as required per company SCM policy (when three competitive bids were not possible). Note: SSJs provide data as to why sole vendors are selected -- detailing their unique qualifications, factors and/or expertise.

  • Conducts contractor surveillance to ensure adherence to contract requirements, drawings, specifications, and local building codes.

  • Routine building & equipment maintenance as required (such as preventative maintenance tasks e.g., IWASH station evaluation, compressor evaluation, minor plumbing & electrical, etc.). Also purchases maintenance materials as required.

  • Coordinates relocation for employees or equipment, including planning of space for relocation and interdepartmental interfaces, and participation & facilitation in required meetings.

Your education/experience includes:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university (preferred) in engineering, construction management, facilities management, or related discipline, with 5-9 years' relevant experience or 13-17 years' of relevant experience in lieu of a degree:. Experience must include hands-on in building systems including mechanical, electrical systems and/or site utilities. Experience must also include facilities management and operations, design, renovations, repairs and construction management. HVAC/electrical certification is preferred. Experience with project coordination experience is also preferred, or equivalent level of project management training and/or experience (to include contractor/vendor interfacing).

  • A minimum of five years' project coordination included in experience is also preferred, or equivalent level of project management training and/or experience (to include contractor/vendor interfacing).

  • Must have the ability to evaluate/assess project in order to make sound recommendations to vendors and/or management for resolution. Must also be able to create effective project plans. The ability to troubleshoot facilities issues and repair or make recommendations for repair or plan for repairs is required, including issues that require specialized handling and/or equipment. Requires the ability to effectively interface with a multitude of technical and/or non-technical personnel in order to achieve resolution for a variety of facilities issues

  • Must be able to obtain a DOD "Security" clearance.

  • Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and be able to drive a rental car.

SO WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? * Assist with engineering design project planning (i.e., conceptual design through construction drawing development) * Complete code-required energy compliance and LEED documentation * Conduct engineering calculations, energy analysis, economic analysis, selection and layout of equipment, duct and piping /plumbing system design * Understanding of applications engineering including psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and controls systems * Assist with coordination of design and installation with Project Management, Construction and Service departments, Controls, and other trade partners. * Field engineering: assist with project execution, site surveys, trade coordination, scheduling, document management and problem-solving * Computer 2D and 3D modeling of HVAC or plumbing systems utilizing the latest modeling software * Effectively and professionally communicate with colleagues and project team members * Manage time to meet project schedules and task deadlines * Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor SO WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? * BS in Engineering or Construction Management * Prior intern experience with the mechanical contractor and/or engineering consultant preferred, but not required * EIT Certificate highly desirable, but not required * Excellent understanding of Engineering fundamentals * Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit or similar drafting software preferred Hours: Monday through Friday beginning between 7:00 and 8:00 am and ending between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, with one hour for lunch. Eight hours per day is required, and occasional overtime may be necessary.
