Description:

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will help design and develop rocket engines and propulsion systems that meet Blue Origin's launch vehicle program requirements for various spaceflight systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the structural integrity of subsystems of a rocket engine

  • Develop analysis and structural test approach to verify structural capability of engine subsystems

  • Use finite element modeling and classical approaches to support design efforts, test activities, and failure investigations

  • Improve existing analytical capabilities

  • Develop best practices for analysis methods

  • Provide guidance to design and analysis engineers to improve the structural performance of designs

  • Communicate analysis results to the team

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 15+ years of experience in structural analysis utilizing FEA

  • Must have experience with structural modeling of pressurized components, rocket engine hardware, or similar high performance hardware

  • Excellent understanding of structural mechanics including strength, lifing, and dynamics

  • Ability to work effectively in teams

  • Ability to mentor junior analysts and designers

  • Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time

  • Ability to communicate analysis results effectively

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience with rocket engine component analysis

  • Knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical or ABAQUS

  • Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python/MATLAB/etc)

You will have the opportunity to apply advanced computational fluid dynamic tools to challenging internal fluid dynamic problems. Responsibilities: * Develop rocket engine component CFD models based on interaction with the design and engine system team * Run steady and unsteady CFD simulations of rocket engine hardware including valves, combustion devices and turbomachinery * Use CFD to support test activities * Improve existing analytical capabilities, including process automation tools * Develop best practices for analysis methods * Provide guidance to design engineers to improve the performance of designs * Document and communicate analysis results to the team Qualifications: * Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 0+ years of experience in fluids modeling * Excellent understanding of CFD theory and fluid dynamics * Ability to work effectively in teams * Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time * Ability to communicate analysis results effectively * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
