This position is for a Senior C and Python Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer professional working in a Linux environment with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. The Special Test Equipment group at Collins Aerospace builds and supports ultra high-performance real-time test and simulation devices for a variety of configurations. Our products operate desktop control simulations, mechanical rigs, facility controls, jet engines, and more. Our products are deployed both electronically and physically worldwide for a diverse group of internal and external customers.

  • Role spends up to 50% of time on-site for hands-on integration of hardware and software.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design real-time solutions in C and Python targeting 64bit Debian Linux.

  • Identify current industry-leading technologies and processes, and drive improvements.

  • Development of software drivers for simulation cards and support of application-specific communications protocols

  • Create and maintain clear documentation

  • Create and maintain tests and scripts for CI/CD pipelines including bare-metal hosts.

  • Maintain and support existing code base following existing design conventions.

  • Actively participate in regular Scrum activities, such as standup meetings and retrospectives.

  • Deploy software and provide direct support to internal and external customers to resolve software integration issues in the field.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Aerospace and Industry communication protocols, such as:

  • MIL-STD-1553,

  • IEEE-1394,

  • ARINC429,

  • Demonstrated experience developing real-time software solutions

  • Python & Debian Linux experience

  • Advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technologies, or related.

The Senior Embedded Software Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and refining low-level DO-178C compliant software architectures for embedded systems, including but not limited to partitioning schemes, real-time scheduling schemes, boot loader software, and low-level device drivers. The Senior Engineer conducts and coordinates software development activities, complex tests and debugs systems with control and diagnostic capabilities. The Senior Engineer makes recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products. The Senior Engineer implements critical software system capabilities, prepares and presents design reviews and coordinates software development activities across multiple engineering disciplines. Primary Responsibilities: * Lead software system design for next generation control systems * Create and refine low-level DO-178C compliant software architectures * Work with modular design principles * Work with model-based design, multi-core processors and real-time operating systems * Create and refine software architectures for embedded control and diagnostic systems * Conduct and coordinate design and implementation efforts for software components designed to DO-178C standards * Conduct and coordinate software verification testing activities for embedded control and diagnostic systems * Debug systems with control and diagnostic capabilities * Make recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products * Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and function. * Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of control and diagnostic systems * Determine end user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition. * Ensure hardware and software standards are met. * May develop software configuration standards for company-wide use. * May train software developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards. * Control modeling (model based design).
