A Day in the Life
This Senior Electrical Engineer will join a team of mechanical, electrical, software and test engineers responsible for developing a subsystem of Medtronic's Robotic Assisted Surgery platform through commercial launch and production scale-up. S/he will be responsible for development and transfer to manufacture of various electrical components and PCBA's including embedded control of high-performance electro-mechanical systems.
Design, fabricate and test analog and digital electrical circuits, including sensor integration, signal conditioning, motor controllers, embedded microcontrollers and communications circuits
Develop circuit simulations and mathematical analysis to optimize circuit design and component selection
Prepare and participate in design reviews
Design and test custom printed circuit boards
Design and test custom cable assemblies
Develop and test embedded microcontroller firmware
Collaborate with mechanical and software engineering teams to integrate and test electrical subsystems
Characterize systems to understand performance variability arising from manufacturing tolerances and environmental conditions
Analyze and test electrical system reliability and thermal performance
Participate in DFMECA and provide safety evaluation reports
Release fully-documented designs in PLM system
Develop and document design modifications via ECO process
Collaborate with test engineers to complete V&V test program including EMC and reliability testing
Develop test methods/equipment for system test
Collaboration with manufacturing to develop in-circuit and functional test equipment and improvements in manufacturing processes
Contribution to projects to develop Next-Gen product concepts
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience. (robotics or medical device experience strongly preferred).
Nice to Have
Robotics or medical device experience strongly preferred
Mixed signal circuit design (analog and digital)
Development of designs with embedded microcontrollers (PIC, ARM etc)
Schematic capture and PCB layout using OrCAD and PADS
Programming in C for embedded systems
Experience with MATLAB or other scripting language a plus
Experience implementing serial communication protocols (I2C, RS-422 etc.)
Strong foundation in electrical engineering theory
Strong analytical skills
Working knowledge of control theory and experience with motion control strongly preferred
Experience specifying/controlling various motor types and data acquisition from various sensors strongly preferred
Hands-on familiarity with EE lab equipment (oscilloscope, function generator, multimeter etc.)
Hands-on ability to debug and test
Ability to solder fine-pitch components
Familiarity with electrical safety compliance and testing, including IEC 60601
Experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle including feasibility, design, V&V and transfer to production
Experience documenting medical device development according to Quality System Regulations a strong plus
Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team
