Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer will support the design and planning for utility scale PV Solar, BESS, and Wind projects. The right candidate must be competent to carry out, review, and analyze complex technical studies and project scopes, along with the ability to develop and review technical specifications, drawings and standards for project related equipment. This position will work closely with other engineers in the office and throughout the organization in the successful delivery of utility scale PV Solar, BESS, and Wind projects.

The position is based in The Woodlands, Texas, or Downtown Houston with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the electrical design of a variety of utility scale solar or wind projects.

  • Create or review design deliverables such as; one-line drawings and collection system layouts, power cable sizing cable schedules and equipment sizing etc.

  • Experience with electrical equipment such as: MV and LV switchgear, pad mount transformers, GSUTs, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverters, batteries, battery chargers, disconnect switches, surge arrestors, dead front disconnect switch, medium voltage cable, low voltage cable, control cable, fiber optic cable

  • Experience with engineering calculations and studies such as: load flow, short circuit and reactive capability analysis (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), Cable ampacity study (CYMCAP or equivalent), grounding analysis (WinIGS), AC-DC voltage drop calculations, Voc/Isc calcs, AC/DC Cable sizing, etc.

  • Create and review technical portions of RFP and contract documents.

  • Support estimating of company and 3rd party developed projects by preparing preliminary designs for proposed projects.

  • Perform technical review of vendor equipment submittals to ensure acceptability to company, and client requirements and adherence to specifications and industry standards.

  • Review work instructions to ensure compliance with industry and client standards.

  • Support the direction of suppliers on project construction sites to ensure projects are constructed according to specific designs.

  • Guide project installation and commissioning

  • Ensures projects conform with federal, state, local and company engineering standards and specifications.

  • Visits project job sites during pre-construction and construction activities to support project needs.

  • Analyze test results of electrical installations and equipment.

  • Work independently with minimal guidance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Authorized to work in the USA for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future.

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering.

  • Professional Engineering license in at least one state in the US.

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in the engineering of utility scale PV Solar, BESS, and Wind projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, and PVsyst engineering software programs.

  • Ability to multi-task and function while working in either a team or individual environment.

  • Working knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read and interpret technical literature and engineering plans.

  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities.
