The Simulation and Training Solutions group is looking for a skilled Senior Electrical Engineering professional who will head the hardware development and modification efforts of physical aircraft and ground vehicle simulators for both military and commercial applications in Binghamton, NY. Devices range in complexity from simple desktop and part-task trainers to high-fidelity weapon simulation and full-flight training systems. Trainer systems typically comprise both clean-sheet design and design reuse; and are a composite of custom hardware and off-the-shelf elements.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for electrical analysis and characterization, schematic design, power budgets, and part specification and selection. Additionally, you will manage custom cabling and interconnect design, electrical assembly documentation, and prototype integration & testing. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute and work under limited supervision to investigate, design, document, integrate, and qualify electrical hardware of moderate to high complexity.

  • Considered a specialist in a specific electrical engineering area or a generalist in multiple areas.

  • Technical head of all Electrical Engineering efforts for one complex program or a significant contributor on multiple simpler programs

  • May be the technical head of all Hardware disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, and Designer) on a complex program

  • Considered a primary contributor for hardware engineering requirements capture, evaluation, and derivation.

  • Ensures that electrical designs are appropriate for the defined design approach.

  • Verifies and reviews the designs and documentation of lower-level Engineers and Designers

  • Primary presenter of electrical details during formal customer reviews

  • Primary contributor in cross-functional project team efforts for planning, manufacturing/build support, integration, and verification of training systems

  • Estimate, track, report, and own the status relating to scope, schedule, and budget for assigned program work.

  • Travel as necessary to customer sites for information gathering, installation and test of end-product. ~15%

Education and experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

Skills you must have:

  • Must have experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent electrical design tool.

  • Experience designing and documenting electrical systems or components of a moderate to high level of complexity.

  • Experience troubleshooting electrical malfunctions to root levels.

Skills we value:

  • Experience working on defense contracts. Experience heading design efforts on past projects

  • Training Simulator Design Experience

  • A motivated self-starter with the ability to organize and execute complex assignments

  • Ability to quickly change focus between high-level concepts and low-level details.

  • Candidate with existing Secret Security Clearance or higher preferred.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
