Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy's Power Generation Division is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer for the Wind Turbine Equipment Engineering Team in Engineering and Operations Support Services (EOSS). This role will require application of diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to wind power generation. Responsibilities will include technical support for a large fleet of wind turbines, with participation in the development of advanced predictive analytics to enable improved failure predictions, maintenance & repair procedures development, root cause analysis & investigations, and fleet reliability improvements.
The Senior Electrical Engineer is a part of a broader collaborative team that supports the entire wind turbine power electronics and electrical systems including:
Advanced analytic strategies
Power Distribution and Protection Systems
Power Conversion
Electrical pitch control technology
Wind turbine generators and motors
Yaw systems
Responsibilities:
The Wind Turbine Equipment Team Senior Engineer will own and be accountable for numerous key tasks, including the following:
Lead the development and execution of predictive analytic technologies to improve early failure definition.
Respond to fleet electrical system issues, providing direction on troubleshooting and work dispositions.
Develop reliability improvement strategies for power distribution and conversion systems.
Lead equipment capability analysis for compliance with IEEE 2800 and other emerging standards related to riding through grid disturbances.
Desired Qualifications:
5+ years of turbomachinery engineering experience
Industry association leadership and technical publications
Six Sigma certification
Experience at or working with wind turbine or wind turbine system OEMs
Experience with renewable plant operation
Power Plant Control and/or Protection Relay and Control schemes
Familiarity with
ArcFlash and Short Circuit Analysis, Reactive Power Studies
Power Distribution Systems including circuit breakers, contactors, high current carrying cables and busbar, transformers
Familiarity with power electronics and control systems
Advanced Analytics Strategies
Willing to travel up 25%
Willing to climb wind turbines
