The Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) business is critical to delivering on this mission and vision, building and operating Microsoft's cloud infrastructure, which is growing rapidly in response to unprecedented demand for Microsoft services. Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation Organization (CO+I) is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for the New Technology Introduction team within the Office of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer). This position will leverage their deep electrical engineering expertise to support the design, development, and validation of next generation, cutting edge data center technologies. This includes design of electrical systems from the ground up, evaluation of existing electrical solutions to provide insights and design feedback, and additional electrical engineering support as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience

  • 5+ years of experience in construction/engineering/operation of hyperscale datacenters or similar large scale and complex engineering systems.

  • 2+years of experience in datacenter critical environment.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Knowledge and experience in data center design, operation and fit out.

  • Understanding of the datacenter as a system to be able to comprehend how changes in equipment performance impact the rest of the systems

  • Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.)

  • Ability to review construction drawings, project specifications, and equipment submittals against construction activities to track progress and review potential issues.

  • Knowledge of test equipment such as load banks, electrical meters, etc.

  • Experience with building automation and electrical power monitoring systems.

  • Experience using the Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Visio, Bluebeam Revu.

  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment and do so with an even temperament.

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, multi-faceted projects, and deadlines simultaneously.

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

  • Develop Scope of work and design reviews of project plans for Research & Development (R&D) facility or field-testing scopes for new technologies for data center

  • Have the ability to design power distribution schematics, protection and automation schemes, Basis of Designs, etc for R&D facility testing or field testing of new technologies.

  • Interface closely with Technology team, Internal procurement team, Engineer of Record, General Contractors, and partner teams to deliver the solutions needed for projects.

  • Serve as first point of contact for all escalations on power distribution design questions.

  • Work with partner teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems

  • Managing the electrical infrastructures of R&D facilities, equipment Maintenance and Repairs, working closely with equipment vendors and suppliers.

  • Position will require some travel for "Factory Witness Testing", equipment and engineering vendor interaction in the design process, as well as final commissioning of the installed systems.
