Help us support the Missile Defense Agency in the design, construction, and testing of electro-optical/infrared satellite systems, which include advanced on-orbit processing electronics. We are seeking a highly motivated engineer skilled at electrical engineering.

Fun stuff you will do on the job:

  • Manage a team of electrical engineers through all phases of spacecraft electronics hardware development, from systems requirements, through PDR and CDR, integration, and test.

  • Work with focal plane drive electronics, FPGA processing boards, power systems, DSP boards, PCI & VPX busses, stepper motor controllers, health and status circuits, cryocoolers, and spacecraft data interfaces

  • Guide and educate electrical engineers in the unique aspects of spacecraft payload design including thermal management, vibration hardening, radiation susceptibility, reliability prediction, material procurement, electronic component selection, EMI/EMC, and process documentation

  • Provide expertise in analog and digital circuits design, and signal integrity analysis

  • Lead requirements definition, schematic capture, board layout, board fabrication and assembly, board test, electro-optical testing, and system integration.

  • Perform testing, characterization, and analysis of electro-optical/infrared systems

  • Collaborate with signal processing experts, software leads, and FPGA designers

  • Produce reports, presentations, and participate in working groups

Skills you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 10+ years of related experience

  • US citizenship and an active Top Secret security clearance

  • Experience with designing electronics for spacecraft

  • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, and signal integrity

  • Experience with OrCAD

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Experience working with cross functional teams developing embedded hardware

  • Demonstrated leadership of small technical teams

  • Motivated self-starter able to work under minimal supervision

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to generate and follow schedules

You will wow us even more if you have these skills:

  • Experience with FPGA hardware, and VHDL or Verilog

  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado, Kintex Ultrascale, and Actel RTG4

  • Experience with Hyperlynx

  • Experience with/interest in electro-optical and infrared system performance

  • Experience with adaptive signal processing

  • Experience implementing interfaces such as Ethernet, Spacewire, GigE Vision, and CameraLink

  • Experience with PADS, Hyperlynx, and Microsoft Project

  • Experience with embedded C and RTOS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Engineering design, development, testing, validation and associated documentation for cell management electronics and associated testing system. * Development of test circuits, electrical drawings and test requirements in order to successfully achieve desired validation goals in an organized and timely manner. * Electrical standards review to guide design and testing requirements * Support cell management system failure analysis and interpretation of test data and results. * Become a key product development team member including support of team schedule, cost and product performance goals. * Experience with power electronics design desired. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: * US Citizen or Permanent Resident * Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Master of Science degree is preferred. * 8+ years of electrical design experience beyond education experience with high proficiency in analog circuit design * 5+ years of experience in battery or ultra-capacitor management system development (BMS / CMS) preferred. * Knowledge of high voltage/high power systems design. * PCBA manufacturing & related standards * Clear understanding of EMC and Electrical Safety Standards (CISPR, ISO, IEC, CE & E-Mark) and certification testing experience preferred * Familiar with automotive processes and automotive electronics design experience preferred. * Proficiency in PCB design/layout, with Altium experience preferred. * Experience of inverters and three phase electrical systems desired. * Being able to interpret product requirements into planned technical direction and execution is critical. * Demonstrate interest and strong aptitude to develop well organized, detailed test plans and test reports. * Strong capabilities in programs such as Altium, PSpice and/or other circuit simulation software. * Must be intimately familiar with data acquisition systems and oscilloscopes for analysis/diagnostic purposes. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Highly self-motivated. * * Maxwell Technologies San Diego CA
