Aker Solutions' Technology & Product Management based in Mobile, AL, USA is responsible for Umbilical Product Line and its strategy, technology roadmaps and business cases for new products. We are in need of an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer who can strengthen our team and support our ambitious growth plans within the Power Umbilicals and Cables market.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Product development- Power Cables and Umbilicals

  • Participate in concept studies and project execution for new products and technology

  • PRE (package responsible engineer) activities for power cables and umbilicals

  • Preparation of drawings, specifications and data sheets

  • Prepare engineering work packages and CTRs

  • Follow-up vendors

  • Onshore and offshore survey/FAT

  • Delivering results and meeting customer expectations.

Qualifications and Personal Qualities

  • Minimum Bachelor degree (BSc) ) in Engineering, (Electrical preferred)

  • Relevant experience from onshore or offshore projects within oil and gas

  • Good knowledge of relevant rules & regulations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to take initiative and to be flexible

REPORTS TO: Program Lead Engineer SUPERVISES: N/A AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for supporting Production by documenting changes, answering questions and creating deck plate changes. * Responsible for insuring timely and accurate communication between Design Engineering and Production. QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: * General: * 5 years of shipyard design or construction experience OR * 5 years of production floor experience * Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline is a benefit * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines * Experienced in interacting with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers. * Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products. * Knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, DNV, GL, HSNC, NVR, USCG, IMO, etc.) * Experience in the construction of high speed aluminum vessels is advantageous but not a requirement * Knowledge of modular construction methods is advantageous but not a requirement. * US Citizenship * Structure: * Knowledge of vessel structural design * Mechanical/Pipe: * Knowledge of ship and propulsion systems * Electrical: * Knowledge of power distribution and lighting systems * Knowledge of automation, control and communication systems * Knowledge of IEEE and NEC * Fit Out: * Knowledge of light weight aluminum joiner construction * Knowledge of USPH requirements TOOLS: Computer – MS Office, AutoCAD DIRECTION EXERCISED: N/A DISCRETION EXERCISED: N/A LIAISES WITH: Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management and Equipment Suppliers PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific physical requirements include the following: Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel. Perform prolonged standing. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis. Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps). Ability to work at heights above 12' while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).
