Qualifications

Position Summary: Provides advanced conceptual and detailed design of systems/components used in industrial Direct Reduction plants. Supports E&I plant commissioning and startup activities as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Senior E/I Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but may provide direction to other designers and contract personnel as requested by Management, Senior Engineers, and/or Engineers. Senior E/I Designer may act as a Lead E&I individual for various projects and initiatives based on job experience and competency.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from Engineers or Senior Designers to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field, design analysis, etc.

• Use AutoCad software to create Electrical and Instrumentation (E/I) drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant.

• Perform checking of E/I drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design sketches, etc.

• Assist Engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design.

• Write requisitions, quotations, specifications, technical writings, etc.

• Perform basic equipment and system calculations.

• Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants.

• Assist the detail engineering effort for bulks items such as cable tray and conduit design, electrical and instrument cable specification, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection, and coordinate with any third party engineering firms.

• Based on experience, may coordinate the E/I design effort as the Lead E/I individual for a project by:

• Directing the efforts of assigned personnel for the E/I system design requirements;

• Checking drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project;

• Developing specifications/requisitions for support of purchasing effort;

• Reviewing and approving purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents.

• Ensuring that relevant E/I information from vendor documentation and drawings is incorporated into the detail design.

• Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of electrical equipment, instrumentation, and electrical portions of mechanical/equipment packages.

• Travel to job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.)

• Travel on business trips as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.

• Travel on field assignments as required to assist with construction, commissioning and startup of the plant.

• Work as a "team player" with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.

Skills/Abilities:

Required:

• Proficient computer skills including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)

• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD software and related Autodesk products.

• Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines with minimal supervision.

• Ability to supervise field erection activities including supplying technical and installation assistance for equipment used in Direct Reduction and/or steel industry.

• Ability to travel to various Midrex job sites in numerous countries.

Preferred:

• International travel experience.

• Industrial plant experience.

• Microsoft Excel skills including developing lists for engineering.

• Familiar with design of E&I systems in hazardous areas with adherence to NEC/NFPA and local codes.

• Familiar with design of bulks items such as cable tray, conduit, cable specification, lighting and grounding

Education and Experience:

• Associate Degree in electrical, instrumentation, or related discipline, or a minimum of 15 years experience in an industrial or technical environment.

• Minimum 8 years experience in an industrial or technical environment. Experience in the steel industry is a plus.

Travel Requirements:

• 10% - 25% International and Domestic based project demands. During startup/commissioning of a project (typically during the 3rd year of a project) travel can exceed 50%.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

• Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures via ladders or stairs.
