Job Description:

Provides technical assistance in the administration of policies, standards, and regulations relating to environmental health and safety.

Department Overview:

The EHS team of safety, health, and environmental professionals work to protect the health & safety of faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors at UTMB as well as ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Our mission is to work with our customers to provide a workplace free of recognized hazards in support of the UTMB mission to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develops schedules to meet compliance time frames.

  • Supports customers regarding environmental, health, & safety related compliance.

  • Researches, implements technical requirements for tracking and monitoring equipment.

  • Applies knowledge of environmental and safety, policies and procedures to support customers.

  • Provides quality technical support in all areas to diversified customers.

  • Monitors facilities for hazard levels to ensure worker and public safety.

  • Assists in calibration or inspection of safety equipment.

  • Assists in the development and delivery of safety training programs.

  • Develops and implements new/improved work processes.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Knowledge in environmental health & safety regulations

  • Ability to inspect, test, monitor, or measure safe environmental levels

Working Environment:

  • Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments.

  • Potential exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. May involve strenuous activity such as walking, lifting, and moving of material. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, chemical resistant clothing, etc.

  • Standard office equipment and equipment used to ensure safe environmental levels.

  • Position may be subject to DOT regulations which include drug and alcohol testing. Testing includes pre-employment, random and for cause.

  • May be required to pass the "Basic Radiation Safety in the Laboratory" course within the first 6 months of employment.

  • May be required to achieve or maintain Hazardous Waste Operations certification according to 40 CFR 1910 requirements within first 6 months of hire.

  • Ability to use UTMB vehicles.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

  • May be required to maintain a Texas Commercials Driver's License with Hazardous Materials endorsement within first 6 months of hire.

Specific Job Related Duties: * Instructs customers on the proper use of equipment. * Assists in the development of policies and procedures. * Provides minor repairs to audio visual and related equipment. * Provides special effects lighting set-ups. * Assists in the plan/design/install of audio-visual systems. * Operates/maintains special facilities. * Operates cable TV and satellite system. * Supports Information Services with teleconference events/services. * Provides estimates for design/install and repair of audio-visual systems. * Negotiates equipment prices for audio-visual pool and auditoriums. * Maintains inventory of supplies. * Assists in the evaluation of hardware and software products. * Stays current with applicable UTMB, State and Federal rules and regulations. * Operates machine tools and electronic testing equipment used in maintenance and repair of equipment. * Provides guidance and mentoring in the professional development of individuals and/or teams. * Provides video editing and shooting as needed. * Trains Audio Visual Technicians. * Assists with PowerPoint, PC and laptop set-up for multimedia presentations. * Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. * Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: High School education or equivalent and two (2) years related experience. Preferred Skill/Competency: Pre-test, set-up and operate the following equipment: 35mm slide projector, overhead projector, amplifier, microphones, public address system, probable podiums, audio/visual accessories liquid crystal projector (LCP) computer, custom lighting, document cameras, auditoriums systems, videography, cameras, editing and duplicating system, VCR and monitor. Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
