Summary of Objective:

This role is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving PCI's EHS programs, policies, procedures and processes at the San Diego site. This involves actively engaging and involving both the site Management team and employees.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or 5-10 years related experience and/or training.

  • College Level Mathematical Skills

  • Advanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform the most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs.

  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.

  • Very High Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in math or diagram form and deal with several abstract/concrete variables.

  • High Standard of Report Writing

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

  • Ability to effectively present information to various people as the job requires.

  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Preferred:

  • Certifications through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)

  • Experience in pharmaceuticals and/or bio-pharmaceuticals industry or similar

  • Familiarization and experience with business continuity plans, serious incident and fatality (SIF) prevention techniques, safety management systems, industrial hygiene, environmental regulations, prevention through design, and organizational/safety culture development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the site Management teams and EHS related committees to author, implement and maintain Corporate and local EHS policies & programs and ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Assist the site management in development and implementation of site-specific processes and procedures to assist in incident reduction and implementation of Global EHS programs.

  • Maintain the EHS database for site level safety hazard reports, observations, incidents, inspections, and more.

  • Effectively utilize PCI's EHS data management system(s) to analyze trends and implement strategies to address and effectively control identified trends. Ensure information is being shared with EHS committees and Management to develop corrective action plans.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system for EHS that will allow quick and easy access to materials when needed. Assist in EHS record-keeping requirements to ensure compliance.

  • Be an active member of the Site Leadership Team to identify potential risks with activities planned at the site level and to ensure effective EH&S leadership and commitment to continual improvement of EH&S at the site.

  • Provide EHS technical expertise for the site; stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects of EHS.

  • Assist in the completion and/or review of incident investigations and provide coaching and guidance to Supervisors in completion of effective incident investigations, establishment of corrective actions, and communication of the results of the investigation.

  • Assist site Management with ensuring corrective actions identified for incidents, hazards, or similar are implemented across the site and communicated across all sites within PCI. Take action/steps to identify, assess and recommend control measures or corrective and preventive action(s) for environmental health and safety concerns.

  • Ensure incident investigations are being completed to identify causes and corrective actions and that the identified causes and corrective actions are appropriate.

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external OSHA recordkeeping regulations and assist the Occupational Health Department in overseeing and managing workers compensation claims.

  • Keep up to date on current federal, state, and local regulations, legislation, and changes in EHS codes and regulations.

  • Participate and lead the local Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)

  • Lead and complete routine ergonomic assessments as the leader of the Ergonomic assessment team following PCI's Ergonomics program.

  • Implement and oversee sustainment of EHS employee engagement initiatives including Behavior Based Safety, Safety Suggestions, EH&S Committees, and similar.

  • Develop and administer site specific EHS training to assist in incident reduction, maintaining compliance and implementation of Global EHS programs.

  • Ensure EHS design reviews are completed for: property acquisitions, new construction, new or changed process, and new or changes to equipment and identified risks are mitigated.

  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments that apply to tasks, departments, and the overall site that includes, but is not limited to chemical use, machine safeguarding, ergonomics, walking-working surfaces, material handling, etc. to reduce risk, promote regulatory compliance and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. Use those risk assessments are utilized to identify, develop, and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

  • Lead site level EHS related customer or regulatory inspections/audits and assist with other inspections/audits as requested.

  • Conduct EHS audits, self-assessments, and inspections at the San Diego site to ensure EHS regulatory and company compliance.

  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets, Chemical Inventories, and Product Health Hazard Assessments are accurate and that employees have and know how to access this information.

  • Manage the San Diego sites site storm water/ wastewater discharge, air pollution, refrigerant registration, and reporting, RCRA, hazardous wastes, spill response, hazardous materials treatment, other environmental compliance programs.

  • Partner with the Global Industrial Hygiene team to ensure compliance with PCI and regulatory Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology requirements including Health Hazard Assessments, Hazard Data Sheets, Air and Noise Sampling, and IH control implementation and utilization.

  • This position may require extra hours and/or weekend work.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, rules.

  • Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.

The base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 plus annual performance bonus eligibility. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including and not limited to specific and relevant experience, credentials, geography and subject matter expertise.
