Role and Responsibilities

KiwiCo is seeking a Senior Editor to take on the responsibility for creating, editing, and managing instructional and educational content for our hands-on projects for kids of all ages, with a focus on science, art, creativity, and learning.

We are looking for an experienced editor who is passionate about developing creative teams and delivering excellent, engaging content for kids and families. You are a strategic thinker who rolls up your sleeves to get things done. You have a background in publishing, a deep understanding of how visuals and text come together to make a piece cohesive, and the ability to manage complex workflows. You continually look for ways to improve team processes, get energized by tough problems, and love collaborating with others to get things done. In this role, you will:

  • Own editorial timelines and project status reporting. Ensure effective stakeholder communication and help to surface and resolve problems.

  • Own the editorial team workflows and develop processes that scale. Work with the team to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements.

  • Manage a small team of editors and provide performance feedback, coaching, and support.

  • Lead the creation of excellent editorial pieces that support brand values and business goals, working closely and collaboratively with product designers and visual designers.

Required Qualifications

As a start-up celebrating creativity and development, we believe and encourage the same in our team. We seek team players with an infectious positive energy, great initiative, and a get-it-done attitude. Candidates must thrive in ambiguity and love a rapid pace. You must have a strong desire to learn and improve. Excellent organizational, communications, and multi-tasking skills are musts. Required skills and qualifications include:

  • 10+ years of editorial / magazines and/or online content experience with progressive responsibilities. Has worked extensively within a production environment, meeting deadlines & incorporating feedback. Experience in children's product preferred.

  • Able to create and establish an editorial voice and guidelines from scratch in addition to scaling an existing set of standards.

  • Innovative thinking and creative problem solving skills with a proven record of innovation. Ability to think creatively and critically, with an understanding of how to balance business objectives with user needs.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally on creative projects. Able to give and receive feedback well.

  • Broad operating range with the ability to think strategically. Enthusiasm both for directing others and for rolling up your sleeves and delivering creative work.

  • Achievement in building, mentoring, and leading a high-performing team of creatives. Able to give direction and feedback to achieve desired outcomes and a consistent brand.

  • Leadership across the entire product lifecycle and multiple product launches. Able to prioritize and manage workload and meet project timelines and deliverable dates.

  • Experience with people management and coaching.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in education, formal or informal.

  • Experience in an entrepreneurial startup environment

  • Experience with children's products, magazines, or other publications.
