The Senior Director, Technical Services will lead a cross-functional team that supports a wide array of business, project development and construction activities across our United States Platform. The Senior Director will have accountability for building and managing a team of professionals supporting transmission/interconnection, engineering and design, as well as permitting and environmental functions. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Operations leadership team in North America and will work collaboratively with the Mergers & Acquisition, Market Research and Project Development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a highly skilled technical services team that supports the entire life cycle of project development from origination to commercial operations;

  • Direct the Technical Services group - a team of technical resources in the United States supporting project screening , selection, design and optimization activities for wind, solar, storage and hydro projects across the United States;

  • Support Project Development team and guide all technical and permitting activities to advance projects through the development process to achieve Brookfield's bankability criteria;

  • Lead construction and ultimate delivery of projects on scope / schedule and budget.

  • Structuring and negotiation of large construction contracts in line with Company principles, strategic objectives and risk profile

  • Manage independent Engineers in performing asset evaluations for investment, refinance or accounting purposes.

  • Participate as a key member in the development of outreach and development strategies in key markets;

  • Support the Business in developing and maintaining key relationships with OEM's, EPC contractors and others supporting our development and technological focus;

  • Participate as a key member of the Business Development team in preparing and presenting business cases for projects that are selected for investment;

  • Support the Business Development team in analyzing latest technologies, cost trends and forecasts and upcoming advancements to support our growth objectives and assist in the development of outreach and target strategies;

  • Directly participate as lead technical expert and/or assign team members as participants in M&A due diligence processes;

  • Set out clear targets and objectives for scope / schedule / budgets for the development tasks undertaken by the technical services group;

  • Establish appropriate QA/QC processes to ensure high quality of deliverables;

  • Promote the use and understanding of industry standards and practices in a business like fashion;

  • Demonstrate a strong alignment with corporate values, including health, safety and environment. Integrating into and becoming a key member of the US Operations leadership team driving increased value within the existing portfolio and delivering accretive profit improvement opportunities

  • Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering;

  • Member of a known Professional Engineer Association;

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant engineering experience in project development, construction or operations;

  • Work ethic highlighted by willingness to "roll up the sleeves" to get into the details required to get the job done;

  • Understanding of the renewable generation industry, in particular wind, solar and hydro generation technologies, is strongly preferred;

  • Proven ability to lead and project manage cross-functional, dispersed teams to support key commercial, diligence and other transaction initiatives;

  • Proven experience in negotiation and relationship management abilities;

  • Excellent influence and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, peers, partners and other stakeholders

  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills and team-building capabilities

  • Demonstrated safe work habits and record

  • Demonstrated experience and ability in managing and successful delivery of multiple projects, organizing project teams, setting expectations and managing results

  • Intimate knowledge of related industry standards, and knowledge of state / provincial and federal environmental and construction regulations

  • Knowledge of Project Finance is a plus.

In addition, the senior director will oversee digital results to measure success and optimize the digital experience and shape future strategy. Key Responsibilities Leadership/Management: The Senior Director provides leadership to a team of developers, content creators, and web professionals. S/he leads the planning, budgeting, and forecasting of the Web Services team and oversees management of their respective areas of responsibility. The individual also plays a mentorship role, guiding team members, ensuring the honing of their skills, and cultivating them for continued growth and responsibility. Critical to the role is the building of organizational capacity/readiness to drive innovative digital solutions, and the creation of systems and processes to support efficiency and effectiveness within the team and across the CUIMC campus. Technology: The Senior Director plays an important role as a technologist by providing hands-on expertise in web development and technical support to identify digital trends, make user experience recommendations, and contribute digital ideas to broader business opportunities. As the bridge between the Web Services team, Communications, and IT, the individual will help make sure employees get trained on implemented technologies and adopt best practices to support strategic priorities which focus on continual improvement, training, and innovation. Analytics and Research: The Senior Director leads the team in defining key metrics and leveraging analytics to drive business insights and identify digital opportunities, particularly as they relate to strategic impact and effectiveness.
