Oncology Strategy, Business Development & Alliances Team
Our team sits at the center of Oncology R&D - driving our tumor strategy and addressing the unmet needs and future focus of AstraZeneca's oncology pipeline. We operate both internally and externally, leading collaboration and acquisition opportunities as well as partnering closely with external alliances.
What you'll do
In this role, you will report to the VP, Head of ORD Strategy, Business Development & Alliances and be accountable for the operational efficiency of the broader team. You'll play a pivotal role in supporting strategic and high priority initiatives, driving operational excellence, owning process improvements, optimizing strategic planning, and building strong partnerships internally and externally.
Responsibilities include:
Enhance Leadership Team effectiveness: Act as a point of contact between the leadership team to enhance organizational efficiency; ensure alignment of objectives, deliverables, activities and key messages between Leadership Team members and broader partners
Set and communicate team goals: Work closely with the leadership team to set, coordinate, monitor and communicate team goals (deliverables, activities and budget); use reporting and analytics tools to communicate results
Drive Operational Excellence: Partner with COO office and enabling functions to deliver forward-looking plans for non-pipeline strategic goals (e.g., carbon footprint, employee engagement, learning & development programs, etc.).
Manage Budget: Lead business and financial planning process for the team, including: budget analysis, forecasting, and risk management, etc. Collaborate with portfolio management and finance teams to ensure that the R&D plans are aligned with overall strategy.
Engage in talent planning: Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition to forecast talent needs, shape our talent location strategy and develop talent pipeline for an impactful team.
Support Internal and External Meetings/Events: Leads the development of appropriate briefing materials, including the coordination of the presentations. Plan with critical constituents and content providers to ensure clarify of scope and objectives. Coordinate Oncology events (e.g., External speaking engagements, Town Halls, JP Morgan conference).
Integrate with Strategic Workstreams: support integrated delivery of strategic projects and initiatives, liaising closely between workstream leads and the broader team to implement strategies that optimize the development of our oncology portfolio
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in life sciences or relevant field
At least 3 years of working with data, analysis and fact- based decision making
Strong analytical and communication skills
Effective interpersonal and relationship leadership skills with consultative approach and ability to interact and build trust
Operational effectiveness, highly organized process with follow through
Strong initiative to understand our core business goals and establish processes or programs to set direction, generate alignment and push forward
Financial background and understanding of forecasts, budgets, financial activities and tools
Resourceful, motivated, influential and proactive; able to prioritize in a fast-growing organization
Experience in strategic planning processes and tools
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA, MD, or PhD degree preferred
Scientific background
Understanding of the pharmaceutical business (including R&D)
Experience in an alliance or strategic partnership
Experience in translating business needs into a coordinated plan from cross-functional senior leadership team
Ability to develop creative and simple solutions to complex problems
