Job Summary

The Senior Director, Pasha Hawaii Operations develops and implements strategies and objectives to drive safe and profitable operations of container and roll-on/roll-off (Ro/Ro) service for automobiles, buses, trucks, and/or other large and oversize rolling stock in the Mainland/Hawaii trade.

Primary Objectives

  • Develop and direct the execution of business plans, budgets, and operational goals.

  • Drive internal development and planning to continuously improve operational capabilities, scalability, and agility.

  • Oversee compliance with applicable contracts, labor agreements, and regulations.

  • Oversee all rolling stock and maintenance and repair (M&R) related to Liner Operations.

  • Manage, lead, and develop geographically dispersed teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executives, management teams, and related business units to develop operational goals and priorities.

  • Develop, review, and evaluate metrics and reporting to measure performance, control assets, optimize resources, and adjust operations.

  • Manage operational budgets, review financial statements, projections, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement.

  • Develop and implement processes to continuously improve safety, efficiency, service, and profitability.

  • Manage and evaluate vendor relationships, insourced and outsourced services, related SLAs, and associated KPIs.

  • Develop and manage relationships with terminal and marine operations management vendors and partners.

  • Review profitability and yield of individual shippers to ensure cargo mix meets corporate strategic growth plans.

  • Coordinate with and advise Sales teams, customers, shippers, partners, agents, and vessel staff to provide efficient, cost effective, and safe methods of transporting cargo.

  • Provide oversight and direction of the operational requirements to Stevedore and Trucking partners to ensure PHH commercial needs are met while maximizing profit amongst the groups.

  • Provide oversight and direction to Network Equipment and Maintenance and Repair (M&R) teams to ensure proper utilization, availability, and safety of equipment assets including containers, chassis, and gensets.

  • Provide vessel plans, sizes, and commodity type details to Marketing and Sales teams to maximize overall vessel utilization from a capacity and margin standpoint.

  • Monitor and direct preparation, review, and maintenance of cargo planning schematics and container tracking.

  • Establish, develop, and maintain effective professional relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and related organizations.

  • Execute and measure contracted services and present performance data to existing clients in a manner that promotes customer retention and organic growth.

  • Identify and implement new operational methodologies, procedures, and technologies.

  • Evaluate and develop knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff and management teams to ensure alignment with service delivery requirements and effective execution of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Develop long term rolling stock model and manage all related M&R activities to include repair and preventive maintenance (PM).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Maritime Operations, Logistics Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field required

  • Master's degree preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid state-issued driver license and acceptable driving record required

  • Transportation Worker Identity Credential required

Work Experience

  • 10+ years of related container shipping industry experience required
  • 5+ years in a senior management role with budgetary responsibility required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In depth knowledge of operations and management principles and best practices in the transportation container industry.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage restrictions with regards to hazardous cargo and stability considerations of vessels.

  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations and related industry governmental regulations.

  • Thorough knowledge of ILWU collective bargaining agreements, port practices, and labor relation management.

  • Strong leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to motivate others, influence decisions, and lead by example.

  • Highly effective business and executive communication skills including excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and group presentation skills.

  • Ability to identify complex problems, use logic and reasoning to review related information, develop and evaluate options, reach conclusions, and implement solutions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

The applicable salary range is aligned to one of 5 zones according to a cost of labor index for the geographic location of the role. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include related experience, education and training, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is set forth below. Ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone 2: $200,000 - $250,000

This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment.

Annual Incentive Opportunity: 25% of eligible compensation
