Primary Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and develop your elite team of consulting analysts

  • Lead and cultivate client relationships and business development

  • Oversee project teams on client assignments

  • Provide direction for the development of pharmacy analytics methodologies and assumptions

  • Oversee the development of pharmacy analytics models

  • Design and implement new products

  • Design and run complex data programs

  • Manage forecasting and trend analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8 years of pharmacy analytics experience at a health plan, PBM, pharmacy, or pharmacy consulting firm
  • 5 years of experience managing and providing work direction to a team
  • 5 years of experience managing multiple projects, Clients, and/or initiatives simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior consulting experience including project management and business development

  • Actuarial Credential - ASA or FSA

And you'll do your life's best work.(sm) Optum is seeking an experienced healthcare expert and consultant who can leverage their broad industry experience and actuarial expertise to drive sales and growth for its Medicare Actuarial Advisory practice. This position is responsible for the identification and sale of large scale consulting opportunities for actuarial consulting services as well as other Optum Advisory Services, tools and Optum operational solutions. This role would also be responsible for the development and sale of consulting solutions in collaboration of other Optum experts and leaders in the multiple areas of payer and provider consulting including Operations, Health Management, Systems Integration, Analytics, and Financial & Risk Management. This role requires executive level relationships with leading payer clients, subject matter expertise in the area of Medicare, and a proven track record of sales and business development performance in healthcare consulting. The role will also require an ability to be a credible industry expert to represent the wide array of technical and strategic services that Optum has to offer its payer clients. Primary Responsibilities: Collaborative Sales / Growth Leadership: * Leverage your personal network to identify new clients and expand existing client business in the Payer markets, as well as opportunities in other healthcare markets * Leverage and collaborate with Optum actuarial and other personnel as appropriate in the pursuit of sales opportunities * Achieve collaborative sales targets consistent with organizational and individual goals * Develop proposals and statements of work for client engagements. Lead the RFI, RFP processes * Lead the development and closure of major client engagements involving cross Optum solutions * Complete financial analysis and develop client business case for proposed solutions * Define contract terms and conditions and pricing models for new solutions, including value based contracts * Assist in building consulting marketing and sales collateral * Establish trusted partner relationships within Optum to expand the Optum Medicare Actuarial and other Optum Advisory Services footprint * Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting * Obtain high client satisfaction scores (>90%) * Develop and maintain client references * Identify and develop consulting offerings, products and services solutions that align with key market needs and or client initiatives Client Engagement / Delivery * Perform a billable role to clients in oversight of large scale projects / programs. Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and / or high risk * Serve in an advisory role to clients on business strategy, operational effectiveness and healthcare best practices * Ensure billable utilization rate and sales goals are attained annually * Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines * Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies * Support the management of resources within programs * Support program communication plan and execution * Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program * Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership * Provide coaching and mentoring to consultants with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization Required Qualifications: * Undergraduate Degree in Actuarial Science or related quantitative discipline * ASA or FSA Actuarial Credential * 12 years of Actuarial experience with at least 10 years as a Healthcare Actuary * 6 years of experience as a Medicare Actuary with deep knowledge of current industry issues, regulatory and competitive challenges, and practices * 5 years leading teams against multiple priorities and projects * Ability to think strategically, having proven experience laying out strategy around the development of products and / or services * Program management - strong complex program management, P&L management, large scale program oversight and delivery * Ability to travel in the range of 30% Preferred Qualifications: * Previous role(s) with broad health plan responsibilities at the Chief Actuary or other C-level position Raising our game in actuarial science will help UnitedHealth Group maintain our leadership for years to come.
