Senior Director, PDM Product Strategy Leader for Established Products

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Gilead has a growing Established Products (EP) portfolio. Products in this portfolio continue to provide value to patients and Gilead's business but have no further registrational evidence generation ongoing or planned. This leader will join a team of PDM Product Strategy Leaders and will report into to the VP of PDM Product Strategy, within the Product and Portfolio Strategy (P&PS) function and will be part of the broader Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) organization.

As a representative of PDM in the cross-functional EP Operating Group, this leader will develop long term product-lifecycle strategies, including those for divestment or sunsetting, for Gilead's established products, on behalf of PDM and in support of the broader Commercial Established Product portfolio vision. This leader will work across the portfolio of established products, focusing where the immediate need is to develop strategies to ensure the products are prepared for the next life-cycle stages. In addition, this role will provide guidance to part-time PDM product strategy leads for established products, ensuring consistency in approaches across leaders and teams. This leader may additionally act as a PDM Product Strategy Leader for specific established product(s), leading the strategic cross-functional team responsible for all CMC aspects of the assigned product(s) ensuring continuity of supply to patients. While principally accountable for their own products, each PDM Product Strategy Leader will be expected to prioritize the overall success of the Gilead portfolio.

FOCUS AREAS

The successful candidate will:

  • As a member of and influential contributor to the cross-functional EP Operating Group, contribute to commercial strategy and EP team vision and ensure alignment with PDM plan for execution, bring technical and resource issues to the team, and influence decision making and strategy. Proactively raise issues and options to the commercial teams and ensure consistent application of enterprise-wide prioritization principles.

  • Maintain a deep overall understanding of the EP portfolio and associated product strategies.

  • Establish a priority for updates to strategic planning to strengthen products current stage and prepare them for the next stage and systematically work through the products to develop those strategic plans.

  • Work within PDM to provide a strategic link for all PDM functions supporting the Established Products and be a single voice to and from PDM and the cross functional EP operating group.

  • Influence commercial EP teams and affiliates by ensuring that PDM perspectives and concerns are incorporated in the strategic plans for the Established Products teams.

  • Liase with stakeholders and governance to ensure appropriate alignment within PDM.

  • Be accountable for clear and timely communication to senior leadership on product activities throughout the enterprise against deliverables, timelines, and resources.

  • Support part-time PDM Product Strategy Leaders for Established Products in building a peer-group community with a range of technical backgrounds and experience through ongoing strategic coaching and skill development. Ensure a consistency of approach across leaders and teams.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in science, engineering, or technical field with directly relevant professional experience of at least 14 years with a BA/BS or 12 years with an MA/MS, PhD, PharmD, or MD.

  • Demonstration of outcome-oriented team leadership in some aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain, quality, CMC regulatory, or process development, or as a member of a cross-functional commercial product team in the broader pharmaceutical industry.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

  • Exceptional influencing skills to effectively lead in a highly matrixed environment with minimal positional authority within the enterprise product teams and across PDM.

  • Cross-functional and enterprise-wide relationship building skills.

  • A strong business process orientation but able to deploy processes practically and with the maximum impact.

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of industry and system best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with a large portfolio of products.

  • Strength in coaching and mentoring other scientific leaders with diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex situations, illustrate conceptual paths, and facilitate discussions leading to resolution on key issues.

  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a changing environment.

  • Comfort with assuming responsibility and accountability for taking impactful decisions.

  • Strong business and strategic skills - for example, converting the high-level goals for a product into a coherent plan for prioritized activities within PDM to support and deliver against those goals.

  • Experience with mature product assets including divestment and sunsetting strategies is a plus.

  • Knowledge of global commercial landscapes

The salary range for this position is: $237,660.00 - $307,560.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
