The Oncology Global Market Access and Pricing is a diverse and dedicated team of leaders and experts, integral to the oncology development and commercial organization in shaping and delivering innovation that matters most to patients living with cancer.

Your Role:

The Oncology Pipeline MAP Strategy Lead is responsible for developing and integrating into Commercial/Development Tumor and Asset strategy, relevant Market Access and Pricing Strategy and payer insights -ensuring strategic cross functional alignment with key R&D/Commercial partners, as well as clinical and economic evidence generation plans. The individual in this role is expected to be a leader across the Commercial and R&D organizations, bringing an increased understanding of MAP to the organization and integrating timely payer perspectives in marketing and clinical development activities and decision points.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Integrates the payer perspective into asset / tumor strategy with Commercial/R&D peers and Global Product Teams

  • Is a contributing member of New Product Planning Leadership and Global Product Teams and regularly attends and participates in respective team meetings

  • Brings an understanding of the payer perspective to the respective teams to ensure that payer requirements are adequately met throughout the evidence development and commercial strategy development processes in a timely and accurate fashion

  • Partners with Commercial/ R&D and Global Product Teams to develops and cross functionally align an early asset target value proposition as part of Target Product Profiles

  • identifies evidence gaps that need addressing to attain Target Product Value Proposition

  • Responsible for Global MAP inputs to forecasting and Business Development exercises on a routine and ad hoc basis

  • Develops and implements the Global MAP strategy as part of the global brand strategy, including integration thereof into all corporate planning processes and documents, assuring cross-functional alignment

  • Understanding of the product positioning and competitive landscape

  • Development of the Global MAP strategy and implementation plan

  • Full integration of the Global MAP strategy & implementation plan into the brand strategy and integration thereof into all company planning processes and documents

  • Awareness of aligned and conflicting interests between the MAP strategy and the commercial and/or medical brand strategy, and mitigation strategies

  • Identification of eventual cross-functional discrepancies not resolved at work-floor level and escalation thereof within the Global Market Access team

  • Ensure development and delivery to countries of optimal clinical and economic evidence generation

  • Assessment of the external landscape to identify anticipated payer evidence needs to support differentiation and optimal reimbursement

  • Integration of payer evidence needs to the Clinical Development organization and EVD functions; including identification of potential evidence gaps, and mitigating steps to address (and / or communication of consequences of failure to address)

  • Integration of value evidence into the Market Access & Pricing Toolkit

  • Ensures that Global MAP strategies are cascaded to regions and countries with an actionable implementation plan

  • Roll-out the global brand MAP strategy and implementation plan to regions and countries in coordination with the MAP Center of Excellence

  • Support the Regional MAP to tailor the Global MAP strategy and implementation plan into actionable deliverables

  • Supports key markets in achieving their MAP targets

  • Development and deployment of the MAP Toolkit including the MAP strategy and payer value proposition, potential alternative contracting models, payer objection handler, etc.

  • On demand support of Regional MAP and key country MAP teams to address strategic questions and payer challenges

Who You Are:

  • Bachelors in science, pharmacy, medicine, statistics, accounting, economics, business or public health

  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in either pharmaceutical market access or pricing, and/or related experience in Commercial/ HEOR capacity

  • Experience in developing and implementing Global market access and pricing strategy and integrating into Development & Commercial Strategy and plans both launch and pipeline brand experience preferred

  • Fluent in English

  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively with peers and leadership; having a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of organization

  • Strong process/project management skills and business acumen

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to draw insights/derive viable strategic options from the analytical research

  • Good understanding of major market reimbursement systems, current health policy topics and working knowledge of health economics

  • Ability to travel up to 20% internationally

Your Role: You will be primarily responsible for developing, refining and guiding implementation of the Global Lifecycle Market Access and Pricing strategy for the current registrational Avelumab development program. This spans multiple diverse tumor types and patient populations with a rapid succession of multiple phase III trials expected to read out in the next two to three years. These strategies need to be developed and aligned both internally within Merck but also in collaboration with our alliance partner, Pfizer. This role will also act as point of contact representative for an innovative multi-company and stakeholder initiative aiming to collect sufficient cancer therapy utilization data from hospitals which can be used for innovative contracting with payers in Europe. This initiative may support optimization of MAP strategies not just for Avelumab but for our future pipeline too.
