Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Senior Director of Radiology is responsible for the direction and leadership of Radiology Services of The University of Kansas Health System. These responsibilities encompass the strategic, operational, financial, programmatic, and personnel activities of the Radiology Department in alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of the health system. The Senior Director works closely with the Chair of Radiology to foster and ensure safe, high quality, and sustainable radiology services across the health system. The Senior Director will maintain a culture of trust and openness and will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders coordinating the activities of all Radiology Services.

Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Provide leadership in the development for continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives for the Radiology service line.

  • Responsible for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance.

  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as it relates to radiology service line.

  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities relative to radiology service line.

Financial Acumen:

  • Ensure credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.

  • Oversee all aspects of finance and accounting functions of radiology service line.

  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities relative to radiology service line.

Problem Solving:

  • Ability to address problems that are broad, complex and abstract, often involving Health System-wide issues and requiring substantial creativity, resourcefulness, staff engagement, Lean diagnostic techniques, negotiation and diplomacy to develop solutions.

Independence of Action:

  • Ability to set direction and vision for major departments or multiple departments.

  • Establishes priorities, allocates resources and ensures policies and systems are in place to drive operational excellence.

Team Building/Teamwork:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify needs and seek full range of business, strategic and operational solutions.

  • Ensures appropriate people are in key positions, sets expectations and develops systems of accountability that align with The University of Kansas Health System's strategic plans and operational initiatives, ensuring stability, growth and the financial success of the service line.

  • Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Health System and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operation of multiple areas of the organization.

Customer Service:

  • Ensures efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, trainees, the public and staff.

  • Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectation in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

  • Responsible for marketing and coordination of services/care in the development and implementation of the Radiology Service Line.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules.

  • Is responsible for the tactical and operational as well as strategic and programmatic aspects of the Radiology Services for Health System, ranging from operational management, outreach and strategic partnering, communications, and strategic planning.

  • Provides effective leadership to the department. Able to strategically identify, internalize and communicate the critical success factors necessary for the department to support organizational goals.

  • Serves as an effective communicator of the organization's vision and goals and the department's role in achieving those. Expresses ideas clearly and effectively (gaining agreement and/or understanding), by adjusting language, terminology and style to the characteristics and needs of the audience as well as the venue for the communication.

  • Manages his/her responsibilities in a way that supports the achievement of departmental goals. Works effectively with others in the management team to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems at the departmental level. Skillfully administers, directs and allocates all organizational resources.

  • Effectively uses the appropriate financial concepts and tools to analyze situations and make financial decisions that support the achievement of short-and long- term departmental objectives.

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the unit/team towards it goals. Models appropriate values and maintains and promotes social, ethical and organizational norms.

  • Creates and communicates the "big picture" understanding of the hospital and works to ensure the department supports the organization's desired competitive position.

  • Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop a unit/team-wide spirit and intra-team and inter-team cooperation.

  • Stays focused on all key stakeholders and supports the unit/team ability to deliver on all valid stakeholder expectations.

  • Effectively represents the department in committees, functions and groups, and serves as a professional and technical resource to the Hospital.

  • Develops and executes the appropriate administrative and technical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards of care.

  • Prepares an operational budget and appropriately authorizes and monitors the expenditures of departmental funds.

  • Maintains adequate levels of personnel, supplies, and equipment.

  • Maintains appropriate orientation, training, and continuing competency programs for the departmental staff.

  • Works in partnership with the Hospital Medical Director for Radiology to develop and execute procedures and policies that ensure quality, effectiveness, and efficiency in the provision of services to patients.

Job Description

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • MBA or Master's in Business, Healthcare or related field

  • License for Radiologic Technology

  • 5 years supervisory experience within a teaching hospital or academic environment.

  • Experience in healthcare administration in a large and complex setting with a proven track record in organizational and collaboration management, at a level necessary to cultivate and steward resources on behalf of the Department

  • Must be able to manage as well as influence across internal and external partner organizations, diplomatically bridging differences to advance the mission of the Health System.

  • Clear understanding of physician issues.

  • This position calls for an entrepreneurial and dynamic individual with a commitment to advancing translational research and the overall development of the Health System.

  • Identification and cultivation of new revenue streams.

  • Hearing-Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as: Auscultation, percussion, recognize alarms, hear overhead pages, communicate by telephone, communicate with patients, students, and other health team members, respond to verbal orders.

  • Speaking-Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as: Communicate with groups, patients, customers, guests, and other health team members.

  • Vision-Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as:

  • Evaluate and assess patient's condition, evaluate non-verbal communication in business environments, recognize visual alarms, operate respiratory care equipment, use a computer and document in writing.

  • Mental- Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as: Evaluate, discriminate, and respond appropriately to verbal and non-verbal communication. React appropriately under high levels of stress. Take responsible and professional action without awaiting orders. Behave in a safe and consistently reliable manner. Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers. React appropriately to emergent patient care or business conditions. Be approachable, and openly communicate with members of the work team.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology (RT or BSRT)
