Serve as a partner to the Chair and other memebrs of the Department senior leadership team across the mission pillars for the School and Department, with a focus on department operations, budget development and financial reporting, and staff development. In partnership with the Chair and other senior leaders, contribute to the strategy, build and maintain the programs, ensure appropriate fiduciary stewardship and operational excellence, and help steer the direction for the Department.
Working with the Chair and other senior leaders, refine and implement strategic plan for growing the Department across the mission pillars of research, education, clinical care and community impact. Work with the Chair, Departmental senior leaders, and other Dell Medical School leaders to develop a sustainable business plan for the Department. Oversee Departmental policies for recruitment, hiring process, and onboarding of new faculty and staff.
Provide leadership and accountability for central Department staff and Division administrators, including performance management, professional development, and reassessing plans for work distribution.
In partnership with the Chair and other Senior Department leaders, contribute to the Department's strategy for clinical and program development across eleven medicine specialties, design the model and test functionality for the programs and associated proposals. In partnership with School leadership, participate in the large-scale negotiations of business terms for contracts with clinical partners, and provide direct oversight for the implementation and operations of these programs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with academic and community-based leaders/stakeholders, finding alignment on priorities and partnering when opportunities are identified.
Develop and manage the Department's budget and financial reporting.
Provide leadership for the major business function within the Department, including management of processes and staff related to educational programming, research administration, faculty affairs (evaluations, promotions, appointments for ~150 faculty members); internal and external communications; policy development; facilities/space planning; CME; and others.
Participate, at the School-level, to build upon and improve existing core functions, including finance, human resources, faculty affairs, contracting with clinical partners, and others.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. MBA, MHA, etc.) or equivalent high level leadership experience. At least five (5) years of experience in leadership positions in health related organizations. Demonstrated experience with managing a complicated and complex organization with multiple stakeholders. Strong provider economics and funds flow experience, managing various sources of funding streams. High level communication skills. Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment in a fast paced environment. Ability to manage multiple streams of work. Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability and strong critical thinking skills. Proven success in operational excellence and performance improvement. Organization building experience. Large scale implementation experience. Previous experience in academic medicine is strongly preferred, including content expertise in faculty affairs, training program administration, and clinical program development and operations in an academic setting.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
