Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Associate Provost for Educational Opportunity and Success Programs, the Senior Director provides strategic leadership and direction for a portfolio of access and retention programs across the University's campuses including but not limited to the Student Support Services Trio Program, PBI-C Mentorship program and the PBI-F Financial Literacy Program, and the Summer Bridge Program. The Senior Director provides operational support for program directors and team members responsible for administering University, federally and state funded opportunity programs, donor sponsored cohort-based initiatives, academic support services, and partnerships focused on recruiting, retaining and graduating students from historically underserved populations. Additionally, the Senior Director manages budget allocation, scholarship programs and regulatory compliance for department initiatives. In collaboration with the Associate Provost, this position develops and executes short and long-term strategic plans centered on student enrollment, persistence and completion goals for first-generation, limited income, and other high potential students from diverse backgrounds. The Senior Director facilitates ongoing talent development for personnel and fosters a culture of collaboration and workplace wellness to promote programmatic growth.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides executive leadership and supervision of managers and teams of access and retention programs across the University, aimed at undergraduate and graduate students from historically underrepresented groups.

  • Develops and executes short-and long-term strategic enrollment management plans focused on recruiting, retaining and students from various access programs and initiatives.

  • Leads collaborations with campus partners in admissions, financial aid, advising, student support services and academic departments to create seamless transitions and coordinated support programs that enhance access and student success.

  • Oversees scholarship and grant programs that provide financial and educational support for limited -income, first-generation students; ensures compliance with all state and federal program guidelines and reporting.

  • Manages personnel initiatives within the department, including team training, professional development, workplace wellness, hiring process, budget management and team evaluations.

  • Builds strong partnerships with external community organizations, school districts, government agencies, donors and the private sector to increase pipelines and secure funding that expands college access and completion for high potential, high need students.

  • Oversees budget planning, financial management processes, expenditure reporting and reconciliation for departmental programs and initiatives in accordance with university policies and sponsor guidelines.

  • Directs research-based programming, assessment and evaluation that supports underserved students' access and success through transitions from prospect to alumni status.

  • Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships nationally and statewide between public and private sectors to increase pipelines, secure funding sources, and shape policies that will drive greater higher education access and affordability for high potential, high need populations.

  • Oversees identification, development and submission of funding partnerships, proposals and external boards aligned with University priorities; maintains robust grant pipeline to support ongoing innovation in access and retention programming.

  • Facilitates professional development for team members.

  • Manages financial aid grant award systems for various cohorts.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in higher education or related field.

  • A minimum of five years of full-time professional experience working in higher education with experience leading the design, implementation and evaluation of retention services/programs.

  • Extensive supervisory experience.

  • Extensive budget management experience.

PREFERRED:

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in higher education or related field.

  • Experience with oversight of programs related to first-generation scholar persistence initiatives including: enrollment management, recruitment, admissions, academic advising, academic support and financial aid.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff, and scholars.
