SENIOR DIRECTOR ENGINEERING

We are searching for a Senior Director Engineering to join our dynamic team at our Maritime Power Systems - Anaheim, CA location.
The ideal candidate provides strategic technical leadership in planning, establishing and directing all aspects of the company's engineering policies, objectives, and initiatives. This position is responsible for supplying and maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the company's strategic goals and operational plans. This role develops ideas for new products or product enhancements. Oversees the creation and improvement of products in the engineering department. Provides engineering expertise to other departments where needed.
Assists the VP/GM in preparing short and long-range business plans.
Establishes strategic department programs, budgets and objectives to ensure that goals are achieved and cost objectives are met.
Formulates and recommends operating policies and objectives, or changes in existing policies and objectives.
Ensures compliance with and implementation of Corporate and division policies and objectives.
Manages department budgets and oversees IR&D investments.
Facilitates continuous improvement in department's processes. Resolves issues regarding development and implementation of division processes and practices.
Assures technical quality within timely schedule, performance and cost constraints.
Ensures availability of competent personnel for achievement of all planned activities, ensuring personnel are properly trained and fully informed. Oversees staffing forecasts and participate in all critical hiring activities.
Monitors the program plan, review product development projects, schedules and budgets (review BOEs). Supports independent technical assessment on critical programs, oversees RCCA investigations.
Oversees the development of design concepts and test criteria. Ensures team adheres to NPI process and supports product through the life cycle.
Coordinates with VP/GM and Programs on program P&L including but not limited to: Budgets; Actual Costs; Estimates to Complete; Invoicing; and Receivables.
Establish staff performance expectations and provide regular feedback. Lead result oriented engineering team to successfully execute business objectives and meet customer's requirements.
Promotes satisfactory relations with industry and trade groups, press, and public.
Supports proposal preparation and negotiation.
Performs other functions as required by Management.
Manages Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Digital Engineering, Project Engineering, Reliability & Maintainability Engineering, Power Engineering, Technical Support, Configuration Management, and Engineering Services departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Bachelor's degree in related Engineering field (Electrical, Software, Physics or Systems Engineering) from four-year college or university. Advanced technical degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years of leadership managing complex, multi-million dollar design and development projects.
Stellar communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation. Sound reasoning and decision-making ability; strong analytical skills.
Must be able to interface with engineering, manufacturing, contract, procurement, quality, administrative and management personnel. Inclusive management style: able to lead and motivate team members and be comfortable with raising issues in a timely manner. Good human relations skills.
Specific experience in electronic power conversion equipment development preferred.
Experienced in Project Management and DOD proposals
Experience leading cross Functional departments
Technical expertise in one or more engineering field with real hands-on product development experience
Experience in related fields of Engineering with good working knowledge of:
Power Electronics and Control Theory
Mil-Spec Design Requirements
Military/Defense Contracting Environment
Budgeting and Cost Control
Broad based technical knowledge and experience in order to understand and evaluate design and development activity across the engineering functions. Preferred emphasis in Electrical Power Conversion Engineering and Systems Engineering experience.
Strong understanding of systems engineering and development process.
Familiarity with the military/defense contracting environment.
Experience in leading integrated teams.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
