Senior Director, Coronary Strategy, Portfolio & Market Development (San Diego, CA)

The senior leader of the Coronary Strategy, Portfolio and Market Development team, is responsible for developing and refining the global strategic plan for the Coronary Segment, comprising device systems and single-use medical devices, in collaboration with key stakeholders across the enterprise. To do this, you will lead a team responsible for identifying fast-growing markets (product/country combinations) and portfolio strategies expanding beyond your direct control, requiring a high degree of coordination and collaboration. To enable effective execution, you must define goals, metrics and key performance indicators, and work across innovation teams to initiate programs that fit within our strategic plan, and drive profitable, and sustainable growth. You will synthesize large amounts of market data and customer insights in order to prioritize product form, fit and function that matter most to our customers, in making recommendations and enacting strategies. You will stretch between shaping products and platforms in the concept and feasibility stage, to preparing plans that accelerate growth and profitability of in-market products.

Strategic thought leadership, technical acumen, quantitative modeling skills, strong decision-making skills, leadership DNA, executive presence and the ability to generate broad alignment across functions and markets are all required to be successful in this role.

Your Role:

  • Establishing and reviewing key priorities and translating them into a comprehensive strategic plan encompassing the coronary disposables, IGT device systems, and service organizations.

  • Developing and communicating the relevant aspects of the category strategy internally and externally so that all employees, partners, suppliers, and contractors understand the plan, priorities and how it delivers value.

  • Identification of emerging market (country and/or product) trends, and shaping the organic & inorganic roadmap necessary to optimize growth, within the strategic plan.

  • Within the category, drive ecosystem development, Go-to-Market (GTM) partnerships and M&A strategy necessary to win new markets. Partner with multiple product development teams to optimize product features, UX and ensure they map where applicable to corporate objectives, where synergy among business groups is needed.

  • Drive product-market fit and develop quantitative and robust voice of customer for multiple engineering teams developing for the next generation of Coronary image guided therapy products.

  • Understand barriers to use for programs in development and develop broad and actionable plans that develop the market in advance of launch.

  • Work across engineering, design, production, marketing, finance and executive leadership to ensure strategies drive through to successful implementation and market impact.

  • Partnering with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives, and market development efforts

  • Shape our category priorities; drive clarity and alignment on "where we play" (therapeutic areas, modalities, platform capabilities, etc.)

  • Use market awareness to promote strategic discussions on external trends, competitor strategies and potential disruptors, and translate these to strategic choices

  • Provide targeted support for IGT Devices long-range strategic planning process, including working with leaders to incorporate priorities into an IGTD view as warranted

  • Lead, develop and grow a team of marketing professionals within your department, and look across functions to mentor and develop other functions within our space

You're the right fit if:

  • MBA or related graduate degree is preferred

  • Fifteen (15) plus years of experience in the medical device industry leading a team of Product Managers, Product Strategists, Innovation resources and/or Sales. Global experience a plus.

  • Experience with technical aspects of product development, and processes, helping or guiding development of medical devices and/or medical-grade systems at scale across form factors

  • Highly collaborative, and persuasive. Ability to have impact through cross-group collaboration and partnerships.

  • Understands the concept of organizational synergy, and looks opportunistically to source those across the enterprise. Encourages effective alignment to deliver solutions targeted towards multiple audience types, particularly physicians and health care customers, and teaming up across the enterprise to sell bundled solutions

  • Self-starter, and highly motivated. Possesses an ability to creatively solve problems and drive decision making across complex circumstances while building consensus.

  • Strong executive presence, demonstrated by communication and effective presentation abilities to audiences of varied sizes, levels, and disciplines

  • Strong strategic thinker. Can critically assess priorities, and can handle multiple, challenging projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • A strong drive for continuous improvement, and better. Possesses a healthy disdain for the status quo, and a willingness to question existing practices to identify better alternatives

  • Strong business management mindset, capable of interpreting a profit & loss statement

  • Experience working in a matrixed environment with distributed accountabilities

Philips Transparency Details

The pay range for this position is $250,000 to $280,000, annually. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered. Employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive Philips Total Rewards benefits program, which includes a generous PTO, 401k (up to 7% match), HSA (with company contribution), stock purchase plan, education reimbursement and much more. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
