SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

As the Senior Director, Compensation, you will partner with team members to manage the development, implementation, optimization, maintenance, and communication of the company's compensation programs, processes, tools, and systems to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation in support of corporate objectives and in compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations and guidelines.

This is an onsite role in Alameda, CA

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, develop, coach and mentor others on the Compensation Team

  • Lead, manage and evaluate the implementation, oversight and management of our compensation programs, policies, plans and processes.

  • Participate in the development, implementation, refinement and administration of executive compensation and BOD compensation programs as needed.

  • Be a thought partner and coach for our leaders at all levels, helping them understand our compensation philosophy, practices and processes, and working with them to successfully navigate compensation related topics and challenges.

  • Be a thought partner for the HR leadership team for compensation and make data driven decisions, applying your deep expertise, and keeping your finger on the pulse of industry best practices, benchmarks, the latest compensation approaches, and what approaches work best at this company.

  • Oversee special projects, resource planning and other activities for the compensation function as needed.

  • Prepare, communicate, and update policies and procedures related to the company's compensation programs.

  • Work with internal partners and ensure compliance with global, federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Communicate and engage with employees at all levels within the company regarding compensation programs and strategies.

  • Develop and deliver training materials on compensation philosophy and approach to ensure alignment across the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervise employees.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline and fifteen years of related experience; or,
  • MS/MA degree in related discipline and thirteen years of related experience; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • A demonstrated history of managing and building teams in a growing and fast-paced environment.

  • Prior experience with Workday HCM and Advanced Compensation modules.

  • Progressive functional experience in human resources and compensation ideally in a global company.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong business acumen, financially astute, attention to detail and strong sense of logic.

  • Creative thought leader, passionate about developing strategic and broad-based compensation programs.

  • Possess a willingness and ability to play a 'hands-on' role with key projects.

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills to effectively communicate compensation strategies at all levels, from administrative to the C-Suite.

  • Relationship building and strong active listening skills.

  • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and exercise good judgment, strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and outstanding attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.

  • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Uses professional concepts to contribute to development of achieving objectives in creative and effective ways.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $242,000 - $343,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
