Position Overview:

We are seeking an accomplished leader to serve as the Senior Director of Machine Learning Engineering. In this role, you will lead a team of data scientists and engineers, overseeing the development and management of machine learning models and large language model applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge and experience in data science and artificial intelligence, particularly within commercial and small business payments. This position requires a collaborative leader with strong communication skills and high emotional intelligence, capable of thriving in a matrixed organization. You will report directly to the VP of AI in Technology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and engineers to build and deploy machine learning models using an MLOps-focused approach.

• Provide strategic thought leadership on artificial intelligence, working closely with Technology and Product teams to define, evaluate, and implement potential solutions.

• Utilize advanced technology and analytical techniques to optimize decisions, considering their impact on customer experience.

• Assess external opportunities to enhance internal capabilities, understanding the tradeoffs between internal and external solutions.

• Develop data opportunity roadmaps to improve delivery against key performance indicators.

• Collaborate with key stakeholders and cross-functional partners across WEX to ensure alignment and drive initiatives forward.

• Build and grow a strong AI/ML engineering team.

• Hands on contribution to the design, model development/evaluation, and implementation, especially in the early stages of the team formation.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience leading an AI-focused engineering team, including a mix of data scientists and engineers.

• Deep knowledge/understanding of AI/ML technology

• Rich experience in developing, evaluation models and applying to solve large scale industry problems.

• Strong background in software development and an understanding of the software development lifecycle.

• Proven ability to work across analytics and engineering organizations to achieve collaborative project goals.

• Experience with analytics and data lifecycle management.

• Critical thinking skills to analyze problems and develop creative, practical, and efficient solutions for a multinational company.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong people leadership and collaboration skills with an enterprise-first mindset.

• Demonstrated leadership qualities that motivate collaboration and guide the prioritization of initiatives.

• Understanding of project management methodologies and the tradeoffs between them.

• Experience in the payments or financial services industry is a plus.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. Salary Pay Range: $226,000.00 - $301,000.00
