WUSA9, TEGNA's flagship CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, is searching for a Senior Digital Editor who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has an innovative vision for what local news can and should be on digital, social and streaming platforms. This person will have an audience-first approach to produce and distribute WUSA9 editorial content, emphasis on video, across all WUSA9 digital, mobile, app, streaming and social media platforms.

The Senior Digital Editor is a leader in the newsroom who is responsible for quality content and audience experience on all WUSA9 digital, social and streaming platforms including content production, presentation and distribution. They help create multiple platform storytelling through all WUSA9 platforms including broadcast, digital and social by working with all content creators and producers. They enterprise content through social listening, being plugged into the community, pitching stories and producing original content for our audience whenever and wherever they are, on whatever device they are using at the time.


  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.

  • Copy-Edit and optimize reporter, digital editor and other content that comes in for digital publication

  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.

  • Coach and mentor other newsroom team members on optimizing content for digital platforms

  • Curate homepage, app, social media and video platforms

  • Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.

  • Research for facts and credibility.

  • Use consumer analytics in determining content.

  • Cut video for website, app, OTT, YouTube and optimize for engagement

  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

  • 3-5 years of experience minimum

  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems

  • Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism

  • Understanding of how to use audience analytics tools like Chartbeat, Crowdtangle, and Google Analytics

  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content

  • Strong social media skills, on platforms to include Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Photoshop a plus

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events

Someone who has the ability to capture the voice of our diverse clients and their myriad campaigns, is comfortable leading others while working within multiple, simultaneous tight deadlines and is dedicated to helping Democratic candidates and nonprofits achieve success engaging the hearts and minds of their targets and constituents. This person will be responsible for the overall strategy and implementation of fundraising or engagement programs and should feel these things are second-nature.</p> <p>This position requires a high degree of organization, time management, motivation, attention to detail, and an ability to pivot toward competing priorities. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and strategic collaboration skills are a must. This person will lead and implement the digital strategy for a few of our great candidates and organizations gearing up for tough elections or organizations doing the kind of work that makes you eager to get started in the morning. The ideal candidate will have either led or been an important part of a digital operation previously. You’ve led or helped raised a lot of money as part of an email program and have familiarity with direct response advertising campaigns as well.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Articulating your vision for the digital program to the client in full, producing results, and functioning as the client lead, keeping the client updated on our progress</li></ul><ul> <li>Managing the calendar and running marketing campaigns designed to mobilize supporters </li> <li>Writing the majority of the marketing content, with production support</li> <li>Working with teams to develop and implement direct response marketing campaigns.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>4+ years of digital experience minimum</li> <li>Experience leading teams for a reasonable-size campaign or organization</li> <li>Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including writing, planning, and executing tests and report results for online campaigns</li> </ul><ul><li>Experience as part of a team running direct response advertising programs with a focus on donations and email acquisition.</li></ul><ul><li>Proven results managing CRMs like Blue State Digital, NGP, ActBlue, and ActionKit is very important. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience leading social media campaigns, and managing integrations between digital and field</li></ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p>The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 including end of cycle bonus. <br></p><p><br></p><p>The position is salaried with competitive benefits and paid time off.
