WUSA9, TEGNA's flagship CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, is searching for a Senior Digital Editor who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has an innovative vision for what local news can and should be on digital, social and streaming platforms. This person will have an audience-first approach to produce and distribute WUSA9 editorial content, emphasis on video, across all WUSA9 digital, mobile, app, streaming and social media platforms.

The Senior Digital Editor is a leader in the newsroom who is responsible for quality content and audience experience on all WUSA9 digital, social and streaming platforms including content production, presentation and distribution. They help create multiple platform storytelling through all WUSA9 platforms including broadcast, digital and social by working with all content creators and producers. They enterprise content through social listening, being plugged into the community, pitching stories and producing original content for our audience whenever and wherever they are, on whatever device they are using at the time.


  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.

  • Copy-Edit and optimize reporter, digital editor and other content that comes in for digital publication

  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.

  • Coach and mentor other newsroom team members on optimizing content for digital platforms

  • Curate homepage, app, social media and video platforms

  • Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.

  • Research for facts and credibility.

  • Use consumer analytics in determining content.

  • Cut video for website, app, OTT, YouTube and optimize for engagement

  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

  • 3-5 years of experience minimum

  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems

  • Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism

  • Understanding of how to use audience analytics tools like Chartbeat, Crowdtangle, and Google Analytics

  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content

  • Strong social media skills, on platforms to include Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Photoshop a plus

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events

You will then be the glue that brings together our designers, copywriters, developers and marketers to deliver comprehensive and integrated website strategies. And you'll be doing it for some exciting and meaningful clients who want to push boundaries, such as the Red Cross, Wilderness Society, Blackboard, Bloomberg and more.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br>We are looking for individuals who are skilled in the full spectrum of strategy skills who will:</p><ul> <li>Apply client discovery, user research, and competitive analysis to devise comprehensive and integrated digital strategies for our clients.</li> <li>Develop detailed strategy documentation including personas, user journeys, competitive analysis, information architecture and user experience. Have familiarity with analytics, SEO, accessibility and technology platforms (such as CMS', integrating with APIs, etc). </li> <li>Work with our Design/UX team to express the user experience as wireframes.</li> <li>Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure we are delivering on the strategic plan throughout the design and development process.
