Overview

This senior specialist implements, grows and matures DevOps practices through people, process and technology, often directly impacting global operations. This includes demonstrated implementation and understanding of complex technical practices. At this career level, this employee independently implements and matures major complex continuous integration, automated test driven practices, release automation, automated infrastructure self service, infrastructure as code, canary deployment methods, instrumentation and monitoring, and integrated tool chain management. He or she may coach and oversee the work of other specialists.

Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities

  • Matures DevOps disciplines and champions the lean agile mindset for major initiatives regarding issues such as Test Driven Development, flow, and systems thinking.

  • Continually improves integration of complex infrastructure builds with application deployment processes across major projects and systems.

  • Troubleshoots complicated technical problems relating to information systems, providing insight and guidance to other specialists.

  • Analyzes, designs and evaluates large automation scripts and systems.

  • Researches new technologies that will be efficient, effective, and highly scalable.

  • Coaches and provides expertise, and may oversee the work of other professionals and support staff in the business analysis discipline.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Disaster & Emergency Management or related discipline

Work Experience

  • Ten years Professional experience working in Information Technology or similar field.

  • Experienced building Automated Testing Frameworks and Continuous Integration pipelines. Highly skilled in one or more of the following technologies: Ruby, SQL Server, .Net, Selenium, Capybara, Cucumber, JMeter or other test automation tools or languages.

  • Experienced with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment scripting technologies: Jenkins, GitLab Runner, Chef, Puppet a plus.

Licenses and Certifications

  • DevOps Foundations Certificate, or similar credential.

The individual will work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and a collaborative team setting Essential Functions: * Provide Mission Assurance Center support that monitors real-time status of all mission capability from communications in and out to mission applications and servers, database applications and servers, desktops and display systems and other ancillary systems and devises to ensure they are fully mission capable all of the time Address and detected issues trending toward mission impacts if possible and if not, determine mission impacts, courses of action to mitigate mission impacts and determine timelines to restore full mission capability to include failover to the backup facility * Perform RMA predictions using engineering and logistics data to meet customer expectations * Analyze product performance against customer specifications and conducting root cause data analyses to determine sources of non-compliant RMA attributes * Perform requirements elicitation, definition, and functional allocation to hardware and software segments and components * Perform trend analysis and product performance analysis of the mission systems, including hardware and software components and provide * Determine gaps in capability and provide the NSDC director with analysis of the impacts and methods to mitigate them * Document the requirements for future mission systems based on the operational needs as identified by the NSDC director * Support of NSDC experiments, exercises and operations * Use modeling and simulation analyses to support design validation and mission benefit analyses * Prepare and brief technical presentations at informal and formal meetings * Write technical white papers, memorandums and reports * Perform research, studies and analyses in support of crew force progression requirements, and manpower assessments * Contribute to the development of new principles and concepts to enhance mission operations * Support the development of technological concepts which improve system performance and mission capabilities * Develop, conduct and document military utility assessments of non-traditional data sensors and sources * Support critical operations during standard and non-standard working hours * Conduct system requirements reviews and create and/or update requirement specifications and technical documentation. Review system engineering documentation to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete * Develop trade studies to guide selection of components to ensure requirement satisfaction * Develop and assess course of action alternatives in project development/product delivery * Develop and conduct test plans/procedures for software/hardware integration tests, be responsible for integration/execution, detailed data analysis, and preparation of software test reports * Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure engineering rigor is appropriate for each project's current lifecycle phase * Support the project management team by performing technical planning, including cost, risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems following a defined system design lifecycle process (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal) * Perform risk analysis, including identifying and assessing project risks * Develop and execute risk mitigation plans and management of risks on projects.
