Job Detail

The IS Shipboard Technology team at Holland America seeks an ambitious Sr. Development and Operations (DevOps) Engineer with a love for automation who thrives on getting tough, real-world problems solved with a smart, motivated team. This role involves managing a highly dynamic environment and working as part of a team in support of operational and project related activities. Provide technical and operational support to other departments and teams as required in support of business objectives.

The Sr. DevOps Engineer role involves the support of operational and project related initiatives. The Sr. DevOps Engineer will provide technical and operational support to development engineering, integration, development, and test teams.


  • Provide and manage 24x7 support teams for Holland America & Seabourn websites.

  • Be the chief technical SME executing the continuous delivery & continuous integration road map.


  • 5+ years' experience as a Linux Systems Admin/Engineer in operations of a large-scale enterprise

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD processes and infrastructure across a full range of environments and service levels.

  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and learn new concepts quickly

  • Solid Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience implementing build configuration tools, such as Ansible, Jenkins, Git, SVN, Ant, Node, Chef and Puppet

  • Experience supporting Tomcat, Jboss, Apache, Nginx, etc

  • Experience with system monitoring tools: Zabbix, Nagios, AppDynamics

  • Extensive scripting experience: Shell, Python, Perl, Chef, Puppet and/or Ansible

  • Self-motivated and able to meet objectives with little or no direct supervision

  • Provide 24 x 7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members

  • Working knowledge of software development methodologies including agile development, code profiling, regression testing, and continuous integration

  • Working knowledge of HTTP and web service infrastructure configuration including load balancers, reverse proxies, NAT, DNS, VPN, REST and SOAP APIs, etc.

  • System installation and configuration experience in a virtualized environment

  • Subject matter expert in multiple technologies chiefly in

  • Automation(Chef/Puppet)

  • Very comfortable with current cloud-native and next gen platform solutions (AWS, Containers, etc.)

  • Knowledge about IOS and Android build and configure signed release package

  • Java application stacks (Tomcat, Jboss)

  • Web servers (nginx, apache)

  • Linux (Redhat and variants)

  • Networking as it pertains to web infrastructure (load balancing, DNS, routing, VPNs)

  • Web application architecture (three tier, high availability, distributed architecture)

  • Build environments and SDLC (Ansible, Jenkins, Ant, Maven, Scrum, etc)

  • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning

  • Systems Monitoring (Zabbix, Nagios, App Dynamics, etc...)

  • Log aggregation (Splunk, etc...)

  • Datacenter operations

  • Virtualization (VMware)

  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and learn new concepts quickly

  • Perform in depth root cause analysis of performance degradation and outages
