Title
Senior Development Officer
DESCRIPTION
Marian Catholic High School welcomes qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Development Officer. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Development Officer is responsible for crafting and executing fundraising initiatives which advance the school's mission and values. Specifically, the Senior Development Officer will: draft and deliver on the school's annual development plan; lead all annual giving initiatives, including appeals and giving societies; and manage major giving prospects, including researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors as assigned.
The Senior Development Officer is a key figure within the Marian Catholic community and must be willing and able to lead teams and initiatives, partner with colleagues, and represent the school with constituents. The Senior Development Officer will remain current on fundraising best practices and innovative methods and advise the Vice President on recommended changes and new strategies.The Senior Development Officer supervises the Advancement Services Manager and so must be knowledgeable on advancement operations and related technology. The Senior Development Officer may supervise additional development officers or other staff in the future depending on the needs of the school.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Craft and execute an annual school-wide development plan
Working with other gift officers, meet an annual fundraising goal of $750,000+
Refine the current process for identifying, assigning, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding giving prospects; monitor and report progress on a regular basis
Identify and act as the first point of contact with new giving prospects
Cultivate, solicit, and steward additional giving prospects as assigned
Participate in the planning, roll-out, and execution of a capital campaign
Draft and deliver a minimum of four (4) mail and digital fundraising appeals a year
Coordinate 4 Marian Catholic, Marian Catholic's annual day of giving
Oversee the corporate sponsorship program through the Athletics Department
Oversee the submission and execution of grants, written by a third-party contractor
Serve as the point of contact for partner organizations, such as Empower Illinois
Establish and grow giving societies as means of donor acquisition, retention, and movement; refine and grow the planned giving society
Recommend and implement other new development strategies as appropriate
Approve fundraising requests from other departments and student teams/club
Partner with colleagues and constituents on ad-hoc fundraising efforts
Send quarterly LYBUNT and pledge reminders
Lead teams and projects as needed
Represent the school at meetings and events as needed
Supervise the Advancement Services Manager and other staff as needed
Manage the development budget
OTHER SKILLS
A minimum of seven years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related field
Demonstrated success in soliciting donors or customers
Understanding of fundraising best practices
Understanding of advancement operations and related technology
Past experience using a CRM, especially Raiser's Edge
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout the school, alumni, other constituents, and the public
Flexibility and initiative, including the ability to work independently as well as in a team to achieve institutional goals
High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
Excellent project management skills, as well as close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
Willingness to accommodate a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
Willingness to travel both locally and out-of-state
Appreciation for Catholic education
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree with a minimum seven (7) years' professional experience in a relevant field.
Computer proficiency in MS Office; experience with Raiser's Edge or other CRM required.
Experience in education preferred.
