Senior Development Chemist - DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Development Chemist is responsible for the development of new global product platforms for the coil and extrusion markets.
This will encompass formula design, the preparation and application of coatings, and testing of these coatings against a wide range of regional specifications and customer requirements. Key functions & accountabilities: Plan and conduct experimental work such as the formulation, application and testing of coatings.
Analyze and interpret experimental results effectively to contribute to the development of new and improved product platforms.
Work closely with regional labs to understand their needs and how to incorporate these needs into new product platforms.
Work in conjunction with R&D and/or other functions located around the globe on the development of new product platforms.
Work toward technical milestones and deliver results against aggressive timelines. Coordinate related activities including synthesis, regulatory evaluation and application. Maintain project information up to date in Compass and ensure timelines are realistic and adhered to.
Maintain and grow an understanding of coil and extrusion coating processes, including details of key customer lines and use this information to inform the research and development of robust coating platforms. Develop new test methods that will help to accelerate the assessment of new coatings and simulate customer line conditions to increase the speed and success rate of product launches. Initiate and foster scientific exchange with technical associates around the globe.
Build and maintain a network with commercial and technical teams in all regions to communicate progress on projects and understand future needs. Maintain and communicate results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports, test drill presentations and gate review updates. Work safely, following all lab procedures and contribute to the maintenance of high safety standards.
Demonstrates ability to influence and motivate associates. May train new associates in daily activities. May provide supervision for designated professional and supporting personnel, like lab technicians and chemists.
Actively contribute ideas for innovative new coating systems and application processes. #LI-JR1 Qualifications A PhD, MS or BS/5+ degree in a technical field such as Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering is required, along with a demonstrated track record of relevant work experience in coatings. Expertise in experimental design (DOE) and complex problem solving are required. The candidate should also experience in managing complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
The candidate should have very good cross-cultural communication skills, a good understanding of resin synthesis and a strong desire to work in a dynamic global environment. Travel will be 10%.
