The Renewable Energy Margin Expansion Lab is a unique organization within Renewable Energy that is tasked with accelerating the rate of cost out in business. The lab is an extension of Product Management and supports the mission of expanding margin while supporting business growth. We firmly believe that the creation of this lab is a required investment needed to lean into an increasingly competitive Renewable Energy market.
The Senior Design-to-Cost Engineer, Margin Expansion Lab will be responsible for executing new design development and production of design drawings / specifications for design-to-cost ideas identified by the margin expansion lab or from other functions / teams within renewable energy. In this role, you will be responsible for helping to vet, validate and possibly incubate DTC conceptual ideas.
As the Senior Design-to-Cost Engineer, Margin Expansion Lab, you will:
Deliver new design-to-cost drawing / specification packages
Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, drawings (supported by draftsmen) and BOM's
Collaborate with all functions (engineering, supply chain, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, site installation, finance) in the development of new designs
Maintain a strong relationship and collaboration with the various product component design teams
Use technical expertise in contributing to the development of business cases for various DTC ideas
Create design development plans
Collaborate with other engineering and Global Research Center teams
Travel to other GE sites, suppliers, manufacturing, installation sites or GE partners to support product development, testing and/or design validation
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering or design development
Master's Degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
Experience with / strong working knowledge of Wind Turbine components and systems designs (or other power generation products / systems)
Maintains and fosters an open mind to unconventional design methods
Team player, positive, willingness to learn and adapt to business needs
Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-locational environment
Comfortable with continuously challenging the status quo
Proactiveness, sense of urgency, autonomy
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Strong communication skills
Strong analytical skills
