ABB is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for Power Transformer Bushings that encompasses the design, research and analysis of parts, components, assemblies, subassemblies and systems, and the production of associated drawings and instructions.Under limited direction, perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering first principles, plus a great length of understanding in medium to high voltage insulation applications and Design-for-Excellence techniques (Design-to-Cost, Design-to-Manufacturing, Design-to-Assy) to cost effectively and achieve robustness in design. Assignments typically require the use of advanced computation and innovative root cause analysis techniques. Proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.
Professionals ( > 2 years of work experience)
Typical duties/responsibilities for engineering may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design, analyze, and evaluate products or components, requiring a high degree of technical computation and design expertise in Electrical (primarily) and Mechanical Engineering (secondarily), with various activities in Product Care, Production Support and Research & Development focus.
Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computational analyses, programs, or analytical techniques to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems.
Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating root cause of problems or field failures, developing solutions and preparing related recommendations and reports.
Conduct economic studies and prepare or lead the preparation of specifications, material and design selection, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, and obtain required approvals.
Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
As required, responsible for technical direction and minor administrative guidance of a small group of engineers and assistants.
Develop 2-D and 3-D models of components and assemblies for prototype, production and retrofit builds, using state of the art CAD (preferably Creo by PTC or equivalent) and PLM systems (preferably Windchill or equivalent).
Develop test plans for testing prototype and/or development units, analyze test failures and develop/implement design improvements based on test results.
Basic Qualifications :
Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 1,000 hours of working experience with Pro-E preferred OR Solidworks, Catia, or other similar modeling software or similar software package and Windchill data management.
Must demonstrate the ability to work within cross-functional global teams.
Experience developing electro-mechanical products (preferably with medium to high voltage power transformer bushings).
Excellent understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis, statistical and worst-case.
Excellent understanding of design robustness, Z-Scores, and Design-for-Excellence techniques (Design-to-Cost, Design-to-Manufacturing, Design-to-Assy)
