Senior Database Administrator (SmartBargains, Inc.; Boston, Massachusetts): Responsible for designing, maintaining, and supporting the persistent data solutions that power Rue Gilt Groupe (f/k/a Rue La La). Will manage a diverse ecosystem of databases on-premise and in the cloud along with data replication in and out of these databases. Will assist development organizations with schema design, quality assurance (QA) environments and deployments.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Build efficient and scalable data-driven features in collaboration with Engineering.

  • Own and manage a heterogeneous fleet of relational databases that drive of core of Rue La La's product catalog, order processing, inventory management and business intelligence.

  • Drive innovative solutions from design through implementation for complex problems using a deep understanding of RDBMS concepts.

  • Design, document, test and implement backup and recovery procedures to align Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) with business needs.

  • Serve as a domain expert for databases and provide day-to-day support to the entire technology organization.

  • Ensure consistency and reliability of QA environments and support engineering teams with development efforts.

  • Provide 24x7 production support for databases on-premise as well as in the cloud on a rotational basis.

  • Provide broader infrastructure support for production networks, operating systems, and applications on-premise and in the cloud.

  • Work collaboratively in large cross functional teams with a positive attitude and desire to innovate and solve problems.

Minimum requirements: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical field and 3 years of experience in Oracle database administration. Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical field and 5 years of experience in Oracle database administration.

Must have: (1) In-depth knowledge of job scheduling and monitoring tools. (2) Demonstrated experience working with: a. Oracle Recovery Manager, Import/Export, and SQL*Loader; b. Oracle Enterprise Manager; c. Oracle Data Guard; d. RAC Clustering; e. MYSQL Clustering; f. SQL Server administration; g. Oracle Streams and Advanced Replication administration; h. Data warehousing; and i. GitHub. (3) Experience with Unix and Linux in a multi-domain environment including basic commands and shell scripting. (4) Demonstrated experience working with multiple projects and tasks and the ability to prioritize on the fly. (5) Demonstrated experience with migration of databases. (6) Demonstrated experience with database performance tuning and involvement of capacity planning of databases for future projects and growth. (7) Oracle OCP Certification Training.

Job Summary: Hosting Services Applications Environments is an outcome-aligned organization which is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of all compute environments including mainframe, traditional midrange, IaaS, PaaS and Public Cloud. The Senior Database Administrator position is in the Mainframe Database Management group which is part of the Data Platforms group. The Mainframe Database Management group is responsible for many functions in servicing Application Development and Hosting Services Db2 zOS and IMS operational databases, including, but not limited to: Database design; Performance tuning; Backup and Recovery; Security; Disaster Recovery; Capacity management. The individual will collaborate and consult on development of complex technical decisions, security standards and will contribute to architectural decisions. They may act as team leader on moderately complex projects. These technologies may include coding (Java, node.js, REST Services, REXX, etc...) for internal web applications and developing new functionalities on and off the mainframe. About the job: * Design, test, implements and secures the organizations' production and non-production databases in a high-volume OLTP environment, utilizing state of the art database concepts and employing leading-edge maintenance techniques to maximize Application availability * Provides consultation to Application Developers / Data Modelers on - Database design; Performance and Tuning; Database engine enhancements; Database Utility usage; Database Security features * Provides support for various activities including: Database maintenance; Application releases; Performance tuning; Disaster recovery; Database software upgrade and patch testing; Schema change and Utility Automation * Works under limited supervision * Assists in training less experienced DBAs * Provides oversight and expertise to application developers * Collaborates on the development of technical and security standards with other database administrators and technical resources for Db2 z/OS and IMS * Provides rotational 24/7 on-call support for production environments * Performs related duties as requested or assigned Desired skills: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. * Minimum 5+ years in the design and administration of logical and relational databases in diverse technological environments. * Proficiency in Db2 for zOS v11 and BMC DB2 Database Utilities and Products (DB2 online Reorg, BMC Copy Plus, BMC Change Manager, BMC Log Master). * Monitoring and tuning of IMS v12 databases to assure database performance, availability and recoverability in IMS DC/DB and batch environments * Use and support of DBRC for registered databases * Support of HAL databases and migration to HAL databases * Use of BMC MAXM EP utilities for IMS * Use of BMC Database Advisor (Database Management Console) * Knowledgeable in new and emerging technologies. * General knowledge of layered systems architectures and understanding of shared software concepts, cloud based platforms, and development tools. * An understanding of the Agile methodology. * Strong consultative and communication skills, analytical ability, judgment and the ability to work effectively with client and other IT management and staff, consultants and vendors. * General knowledge in the following areas: IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies, architectures and technical standards, database administration tools and utilities, application architectures and design principles, infrastructure architectures, backup and recovery, storage subsystems, and replication concepts. * General knowledge of business functions and business operations. * Must be proactive, adaptable, collaborative and be a logical thinker.
