The Health Plan Analytics (HPA) business unit is searching for an energetic and driven data scientist to bring best in class analytics to the Global Data and Analytics organization. The Data Science Advisor will be a member of a team that will develop analytics that measure the value of our healthcare programs to each member and client, which will lead to customized recommendations for each client.

HPA offers solutions that provide actionable insights to internal and external business partners and customers that help reduce health costs, improve outcomes, provide financial security and measure and forecast business performance. The Data Science team has joint accountability with business operations to achieve Cigna's customer-centric, business growth objectives and strives for high levels of alignment and day-to-day engagement. The team provides analytical discipline and rigor to enable fact-based decisions for the business.

Role Summary:

This person will contribute to the development of comprehensive analytics that facilitate best in class solution analytics. The responsibilities are as follows:

  • Critical member of a new data science team focusing on the valuation and recommendation of our Commercial Healthcare solutions.

  • Utilize data science and advanced analytics to create actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders to advance Cigna's strategic objectives.

  • Develop advanced analytics utilizing Cigna's proprietary information while also leveraging new and innovative data sources.

  • Regularly communicate work with business stakeholders and senior leadership.

  • Stay up to date on latest data science tools and techniques (e.g. modeling, technology, and industry trends).

  • Ensure solutions drive long term value while also ensuring they can integrate with current processes.

  • Test & Learn Pilots: collaborate with business leaders to design, launch and measure robust pilots to test new solutions.

  • Develop models that foster advancement of our products and product offerings by aligning business problems to a potential solution like GLMs, Machine Learning, Clustering or other advanced techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or Data Science.

  • 4 or more years of work experience in insurance analytics/data science.

  • Statistical training in school or through work (ability to formulate and execute appropriate confidence intervals, regression modeling, various machine learning methods, etc.).

  • Strong technical skills to extract large amount of data through SAS/Teradata/Hadoop/Oracle and construct easy to use tools and reports using VBA/Tableau and GIS.

  • Intermediate to advanced R and Python coding experience required

  • Ability to build models and manage the model building process (data prep, model build, validation, and implementation).

  • Previous experience collaborating with others, establish working relationships, and communicating effectively across the organization.

  • To influence, drive, and improve the areas above, the person in this position will need to be self-motivated.

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills to work with various matrix partners, including but not limited to actuarial, medical economics, contracting, business, marketing, and IT.

  • Working knowledge of Commercial Markets (Business to Business) insurance strongly preferred

This position will support Marketing Analytics initiatives in B2B/broker relationship and engagement. The data scientist is a role in the Global Marketing Analytics COE and reports to Commercial Marketing Analytics Leader. He/she will play a pivotal role in managing internal and external b2b/broker data, planning, executing and delivering predictive/machine learning modeling projects. The bulk of the work will be in coming up with innovating modeling opportunities, modelling, offshore data scientist team management, management and problem analysis, data exploration and preparation, data collection and integration and operationalization. The newly hired data scientist will be a key interface between the Marketing Analytics COE and business teams for example Sales, Marketing, Business strategy, broker relationship, finance teams, and various other departments. Candidates need to be self-driven, entrepreneurial, curious and creative. Primary Responsibilities: * Guide and inspire the organization about the business potential and strategy of Marketing Analytics and Insights * Significant experience in setting up analytics environment such as data management, data governance, Self-serving insights platforms for our partners, and work on analytics platforms. * Identify data-driven/ machine learning business opportunities * Prioritize, scope and manage insights and predictive modeling projects and the corresponding key performance indicators (KPIs) for success * Collaborate across enterprise to understand business requirements, constraints, third party, and technology * Execute predictive modeling lifecycle from ideation and hypotheses generation, data extraction and exploration, model building and validation, results communication, and production to optimize go-to-market strategy. * Understand new data sources and process pipelines, and catalog/document them. Display drive and curiosity to understand the business process to its core. Network with domain experts to better understand the business mechanics that generated the data. * Have deep knowledge of fundamentals of Predictive modeling, data mining and machine learning, and extensive experience applying these methods to real world problems. * Have extensive experience in model testing, such as cross-validation and A/B testing. * Promote collaboration with other analytics / data science teams within the COEs and Organization. Train business teams on basic data science principles and techniques. * Keep abreast of the latest developments in Data Science field by continuous learning and proactively champion promising new methods relevant to the problems at hand. Key Requirements: * 4+ years' experience in a marketing analytics role in the B2B area, marketing, sales or related areas * BA/BS required (strong preference for Accounting, Business Analytics, Statistics, Math, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Actuarial or Computer Science) with related experience * PhD/Master's degree in computer science, data science, operations research, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field is preferred * Demonstrated experience and mastery leading teams, strong understanding of business strategy, and strong relationships with General Management, Marketing, Finance, Sales Leadership * Proven experience in implementing new processes/systems and improvement of process efficiency * Candidates should have six or more years of relevant hands-on experience in successfully launching, planning, and executing analytics projects.
