Global Retail Markets (GRM) Actuarial US ModelingTeam is searching for a highly motivated Senior Data Scientist who is eager tomake an impact on the very complex and evolving insurance industry. The ModelDevelopment team is responsible for applying sophisticated predictive modelingand analytical analysis to a broad range of business problems; communicatingthe results of their work to stakeholders; and providing guidance and peeroversight to other modeling groups. You will leverage primary data, advancedquantitative modeling and financial analysis to develop predictive analytic modelsand tools that enable data-driven strategic decision-making. This role requiresbroad knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and advanced application of thosetechniques to a variety of business issues. You will provide highly technical analytical assessments of businessissues to a mixture of technical and non-technical audiences, so goodcommunication skills are essential. This position will connect often with othergroups across Liberty Mutual including Claims and Product.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with otherbusiness partners to develop appropriate statistical approaches and tools thatwill drive strategic decision making related to reserving, trends and otherchallenging problems central to our business.

  • Research,recommend, and implement new and/or alternative statistical and othermathematical methodologies appropriate for the given model or analysis.

  • Perform highly complex,technical and creative predictive analytics projects.

  • Manage and prioritizemultiple moderate-to-highly complex projects including gathering businessrequirements, developing project goals and requirements, coordinating projecttimelines, and communicating project status and deliverables with customers andmanagement.

  • Understand thecompetitive marketplace, business issues, and data challenges in order todeliver actionable insights, recommendations and business processes.

  • Present findings, shareinsights, and make recommendations that impact profitability, growth and/orcustomer satisfaction.

  • Effectively communicateresults in written, oral and presentation formats.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree inMathematics, Economics, Statistics or any other quantitative field plus 5 yearsof applied business/non-academic experience preferred; Ph.D. plus 4 years ofexperience preferred; FCAS plus 5 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Advancedanalytical/problem solving and research skills.

  • Proficient in predictiveanalytics including real-world experience in model development, validation,and testing.

  • Proficient with at leastone language for data analysis, such as R, Python or SAS.

  • Experiencewith very large analysis datasets and Enterprise-scale database systems.

  • Experience in thefollowing: generalized linear models, survival models, random forests,clustering, and Bayesian approaches to data analysis.

  • Strongverbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability toclearly and effectively communicate technical results to a non-technicalbusiness audience.

Responsibilities: * Rate Guidance - Provide critical support to develop and communicate countrywide new business and renewal business rate level recommendations * Creative Analytics – We are tasked with answering questions that have never been asked. The ability to think outside the box and build multiple facets of analytical capabilities will be critical to success * Influencer – As the LOB expert we are consulted on many cross functional initiatives/actions across the org related to the property line.
