As a Data Engineer at QuantumBlack

You will apply your passion for finding opportunities in data by using tools and techniques to get insights from large complex data sets.

The impact of your work is normally realized in a very short span of study duration. You'll also focus on learning new technologies and you'll contribute to knowledge sharing, usually through blogs or conferences.

This would be a hybrid client-facing/technical role using state of the art technologies, whilst also being able to communicate complex intractable ideas to non-technical audiences. Collecting clear requirements is a key part of this role and will define the technical strategy the team employs on the study.

You will influence many of the recommendations our clients need to positively change their businesses and enhance performance.

Role responsibilities

  • Work with our clients to model their data landscape, obtain data extracts and define secure data exchange approaches

  • Acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources and systems into Big Data platforms

  • Understanding, assessing and mapping the data landscape.

  • Maintaining our Information Security standards on the engagement.

  • Collaborate with our data scientists to map data fields to hypotheses and curate, wrangle, and prepare data for use in their advanced analytical models.

  • Defining the technology stack to be provisioned by our infrastructure team.

  • Building modular pipeline to construct features and modelling tables.

  • Use new and creative techniques to deliver impact for our clients as well as internal R&D projects.

  • How successful projections on real world problems across a variety of industries are completed through referencing past deliveries of end to end pipelines.

  • Build products alongside the Core engineering team and evolve the engineering process to scale with data, handling complex problems and advanced client situations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics or equivalent subject; Master's degree preferred

  • Solid foundations in Software Engineering, Agile e Cloud computing, alongside passion for finding meaning in disparate data sets.

  • Development background with experience in at least two scripting, object oriented or functional programming language: SQL, Python, Java, Scala, C#, R, Linux shell, etc.

  • Working experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL

  • Experience with data pipelines and ETL.

  • Ability to communicate data related findings clearly for audiences of all levels

  • Experience on Big Data platforms both for batch and streaming data processing like Spark, Hadoop (Hive / Impala / Sqoop)

  • Experienced with architecting and deploying machine learning solutions to production environment including but not limited to: ML Flow, Flask, Cloud ML or SageMaker

  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases like Cassandra, HBase, Redis, MongDB, DynamoDB is nice to have

  • Knowledge on message queueing, streaming and data flow products like Spark Streaming, Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, Storm, NiFi, Flink is nice to have

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions; tolerance in dealing with bad quality data

  • 5+ years of working experience, both in hands on and client facing roles

  • Distinct customer focus and quality mindset

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and in various team settings

  • Ability to work under pressure with a solid sense for setting priorities

  • Ability to manage own learning and contribute to domain knowledge building

  • Strong command of English language (both verbal and written)

  • Ability to travel
